  1. Thanks for the images. It gives me more of an idea of what needs to be done.
  2. Has anyone any info or advice on fitting a puma bulkhead to a td5. I’ll be keeping the td5 dash and interior as is. There looks like there needs to be some alteration to the tunnel and a few holes added or blanked off for the heater and electrics. thanks, Matt.
  3. Hello Chaps, Ive been doing some research on the shielder bulkheads with mind to buying one and came across this thread. The latest on the defender2.net thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic62499.html?highlight=shielder&start=15 http://www.defender2.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=23561&pos=0 Doesn't look too promising. Has anyone else taken delivery of a bulkhead and have better reports before I take a gamble? Thanks Matt.
  4. I prefer it on my td5. I don't do any towing but do carry a fair weight in tools and it copes perfectly well. Definitely better on long motorway/a-road runs.
  5. Have you checked that the windscreen to bulkhead block/hinge is clear of crud? Mine leaks when the water pools in the channel under the window, then it comes in at the bottom of the window seal.
  6. I'm not 100% sure, but It only makes the noise in 5th.
  7. '99 def 90 td5. I think my gear box is on the way out. It's started making a chirping noise in 5th which I believe is a layshaft bearing. I'm thinking a new recon box from ashcrofts but while its been done I'd like to swap the tbox to a 1.22 ratio as I do a few motorway miles and also get the clutch done. The questions are: 1. Should i keep driving it until it goes bang?! 2. How long does it normally take before it goes bang?! 3. Would I need to change the ecu for the different tbox as the 99 ecu can't be re-mapped? 4. Which clutch kit to go for? Thanks in advance.
  8. If your only using the defender for general tootling about, buy a fan spanner. Take the fan off in winter so it heats up quicker. Put it back on in summer for peace of mind that it won't overheat. Much cheaper than a kenlowe.
  9. I haven't a clue if they're any good. It'd be interesting to hear if anyone has tried them. http://www.amaservices.biz/ama-grp-designs/4564590506
  10. I'm pretty sure it's a 1.4 ratio tbox and its not reaching max revs at that speed.
  11. It's pretty easy to get access. I think you have to remove the land rover badge on the grab handle and undo a few screws and the speaker housing should come off giving you access to the motor.
  12. Does anyone know if my defender (1999 td5 ex-utility company 90 hard top) is likely to be limited to 70mph? If so can it be easily bypassed or is it a case of a new ecu?
  13. Thanks Big.Mike, this is 1 of the problems that I imagined would scupper my idea. Which brand of seat is it?
  14. How do you find the inward facing seats for comfort?
  15. Yes. Me, swmbo and a future little un. I don't think as an engineering problem it'd be difficult to overcome. Using existing secure fixing points where the centre seat was on the defender to utilise the isofix system, after all the isofix system as far as i can tell is only two square d shaped points fixed securely to the vehicle structure. I can imagine that there would be a hell of a lot of problems testing it for safety etc. But what would they be?
  16. Its a 90 hard top and i don't have a centre seat.
  17. Cheers Mickeyw. I don't have a centre seat so the three point idea isn't really the road i'd like to go down. The idea would be to safely fix an isofix seat base so it sat on the tunnel cover, making it a few inches lower than if it was sat on a centre seat and hopefully so that it'd be still possible to change gears with a rear facing baby seat, then when the brat gets older buying a forward facing seat that fits into the same base. In theory I could fit some square u bolts with spreader plates through the rear bulkhead so the base would clip onto them, but i'd prefer something a little more over engineered. Any more ideas are welcome. Ta, Matthew74.
  18. Hello Peeps, Have any budding engineers out there looked into how easy it would be to do a centre seat iso fix conversion? As far as i can tell it works by having 2 d rings that a seat base/seat clips onto. I'm thinking a bracket that bolts onto the existing seat belt points and probably to the rear bulkhead. Would it be legal? Is it just a matter of the MOT tester being happy with it or would it need testing in at a higher level? Maybe it's something Simonr would be interested in! X-iso fix. (we can work out my percentage later!!) Please discuss, Matthew74

  21. I'd think used engine oil is not a good idea, especially if you go wading. A sure fire way of polluting streams etc.
