DefcoL
Hi all, O/S turret mountings broke at the week end so need to replace it. As I have never done this before can anyone give me any tips and photos of how to do the job? Or is it a case of special tools required? TIA Lawrence PS know anywhere I can get replacement glass for o/s mirror? (broke that two weeks ago) but Im having fun
v8bobber
If you are talking about the front suspension turrets then it's an easy and relatively cheap job. The only thing you may have a job with is taking the four nuts off the turret retainer coa they are usually rusty and shear off! best buy a retaining ring just incase!! Dave Plenty of releasing fluid first over a few days may help you out!

v8bobber
The same thing happened to me. However, if they snap off youy unfortunately have to hire / borrow / steal some spring compressors as the retaining ring sits between the top of the spring and the underneath of the spring mount! Not na expensive job but a real pain in the what nots! I ended changing the springs and dampers while I was in there as for around £200 you get a hal decent set of springs and dampers too! Andy
why use spring compressors? lower the axle to the floor & jack the car up till the spring is slack, might need to remove the caliper & tie it up to allow this. also means your not bending down as low to work on the thing. you do need decent axle stands though. Hi Andy, Thanks, a good tip as I don't like bending down after the spine op. (or it is just old age ha..ha..ha) Lawrence
landrover598
I changed my turrets this morning, really easy, undo the large nut on the top of the damper and undo the 4 smaller bolts (13mm) around the base of the turret. If the bolts shear, then drop the axle down until the spring is loose, then pull out and replace the retaining ring luckily all my bolts came off easy

I've found that by the time you do all that you can easily have changed the springs in the same time! Dave
Andy
each to their own i guess, i just dont like going near spring compressors. worries how much force is being contained if something happens. this way was suggested to me by a mate who works at a LR specialist, but then he cheats. calliper off, unbolt shox then raise the 2-poster ramp... of course the fact i steal/borrow a mates hi-lift & have a winch bumper makes life a lot easier. would be pain to do on a stock disco i guess.
