Dorsetfreelander
Speaking as someone with IT and electronics know how I was wondering if anyone has any experience or info on how to interface a laptop into the diagnostic socket on an 04reg TD4 Freelander. I obviously need some sort of connector and then some software to interrogate the system.
RJF
My 2001 TD4 has the standard 16pin EOBD connector fitted. I use a Gendan scanner and a Scangauge with it successfully. I seem to remember it was using the ISO protocol, but I might be wrong. The connector is located in the passenger footwell, just where the centre console plastics end on mine. I'm not sure if it moved on the facelift models. Hope this helps, Rob.
FridgeFreezer
Have a google for "open source OBD", there's loads of stuff all over eBay as well. Interface is CANBUS I think, it's a standard industrial/automotive protocol, you can DIY the adapter if you really want. Be aware though, that beyond a few standard messages a lot of it is vehicle-specific so you won't get the same functionality as the professional or main-dealer kit even if you can talk to it.
