Russell_ds80
Hi all. theres some tyres on ebay advertised as 7.50 x 16 and 235/85/16. Ive spoken to the bloke and he reckons there both exactly the same size but this just doesnt seem possible? Any one know if im just being stupid here?? Cheers. Rich_P
They'll be close, but not exactly the same. The biggest difference will be that the 235/85 will be a bit wider. Tyre brand can make a difference in size as well.

Cheers. 7.50x16 is in inches 235 is tread width in mm, 85 is sidewall height as a % of tread width, 16 is wheel rim diameter in inches. Diff
Hi all. theres some tyres on ebay advertised as 7.50 x 16 and 235/85/16. Ive spoken to the bloke and he reckons there both exactly the same size but this just doesnt seem possible? Any one know if im just being stupid here?? Cheers. It is true that they are similar in diameter but DON'T mix them on the vehicle: Both around 31.5 inches (this varies slightly between tread patterns, and makes). BUT, The 7.50 x 16 has a nominal 'section width'(widest part of sidewall) of 7.5 inches which is approx 190mm. The 235/85 x 16 has a nominal 'section width'(widest part of sidewall) of 235mm which is approx 9.5 inches. The 7.50 x tyres must be fitted to wheel rims with widths of 5.5 to 6.5 inches and can be fitted to standard Land Rover steel wheels which are 5.5 inches wide, or to 'Wolf' wheels which are 6.5 inches wide. They should not be fitted to standard LR alloys which are 7 inches wide, or most aftermarket steel wheels eg Modulars or eight spokes which have 7 inch rims (there are other widths out there, but not common). The 235/85 x 16 tyres must be fitted to wheel rims with widths of 6 to 7 inches, so should not be fitted to standard Landrover 5.5 inch steel wheels but can be fitted to 'Wolfs', Land Rover alloys and most aftermarket steels which are most commonly 7inches wide. Hope this helps, Regards, Diff.
