DJB1140
If I run the aircon for a while and then turn it off, the humidity in the car rises dramatically. I have had something similar on other vehicles and found the cause to be blocked drain pipes on the aircon unit. This stops the water draining away and when the airson is turned off it evaporates and creates a small sauna in the car. Any one else had this problem. The real question is where do I find the drains for the aircon unit. So far I have not found anything obvious.
BogMonster
Memory may be a bit rusty but IIRC the aircon drains are black rubber pipes which run down either side of the transmission tunnel. I've always had this on any vehicle I have owned, I don't dispute your suggested cause but I think "a little bit of condensation is normal"
IanS
They're not actually pipes just little nipple type things. They get blocked up then the bottom of the aircon unit fills up with condensate which spills over and soaks the carpets. The one on the LHS is carefully positioned just above the notorious XYZ switch on automatics so that it gets a good soaking. I've taken the nipples off mine but fitted a bit of plastic pipe on the LHS to toute the water away from the switch.
