Air Temperature - Problem?

stuck

Recommended Posts

Gent's,

I recently 'Squirted a 3.9 on a mates CCV truck, as he doesn't have a snorkel fitted I mounted the air temp sensor out of harms way on the outside of the truck.

He's insisting on using an air filter mounted on the plenum inlet under the bonnet so once it's warmed up there is going to be a big difference in the air temp between what MS is reading & what the engine is breathing, will this cause problems?

If so would it be acceptable to mount the air temp sensor in the plenum inlet?

Thanks,

Mick.

The point of adding an air temp sensor is to estimate air density from the temperature, if it is outside the truck the ECU will be blissfully unaware of potential high underbonnet temperatures. What kind of air filter is it? Is it possible to mount it in that?

You can use the GM coolant sensor (default MS sensor) as air-temp, it will have slower response but is sealed-end.

You could drill & tap the plenum to take a sensor or just find somewhere under the bonnet to hang it, it's not super-critical, I ran mine with the IAT mounted in free air for quite some time ;)
