Simon119
Morning all Had a phone call from the old man last night saying he's thinking of buying an old 90. He's found one locally to him that he want me to go and have a look at with him. It's a d reg 90, 2.5TD engine with 92,000 on the clock. Is there anything specific with regards to the 2.5TD and the Lt77 box I should be looking for?? Have only had dealings with TD5's and R380's myself. Thanks in advance Simon
ejparrott
See how much it breathes through the rocker, and track down the engine number, you want a late model 19J with the improvments
muddy
I'd be looking for a disco to rob for its engine I would want to get to it when it had not been started for 12hours+ , give it 15 secs or more of heat and see how it starts, if it splutters into life with clouds of blue and white smoke its probably getting ripe for a rebuild/replacement. Lt77's are much like r380's IMHO. Will.
rovernut
Crankshaft pulleys had a habit of coming adrift. Performance was never earth shattering, but with oil changes regularly and care it can go on for 200,000 miles. I know this because I had a very high mileage 2.5 TD some years ago. Never gave me half as many technical issues as my TD5 Disco or the current TD5 110.
crclifford
Open up the air filter see how much oil is in it. If the is a lot, it might be on it's way out.
potato head
If there is a wading plug in the cam belt cover take it out to see if there is any oil in the cover.
