Chassis Dumb Iron Repair

Recommended Posts

Have been playing about fixing my winch today, and noticed what looked like a crack down the front left dumb iron. Being the fool that I am, I decided to investigate further with a wire brush and screwdriver

As expected, it's nothing good! The whole chassis is getting to the point where it needs replacing, but I just don't have that sort of money at the moment.

I suspect the chassis has split after a very sharp pull on the jate ring that was there (not deliberate). Do you reckon I could have the repair done with sheet metal, and just weld a patch in there, or do I need to look at a replacement dumb iron?

This might explain why my bumper is not level with the body work!

Pics attached :(
