jackmac
Have been playing about fixing my winch today, and noticed what looked like a crack down the front left dumb iron. Being the fool that I am, I decided to investigate further with a wire brush and screwdriver As expected, it's nothing good! The whole chassis is getting to the point where it needs replacing, but I just don't have that sort of money at the moment. I suspect the chassis has split after a very sharp pull on the jate ring that was there (not deliberate). Do you reckon I could have the repair done with sheet metal, and just weld a patch in there, or do I need to look at a replacement dumb iron? This might explain why my bumper is not level with the body work! Pics attached
western
cut out the damage & replace with new metal not less than 2mm thick, that should restore the integrity.
jackmac
Cutting out the red rectangle in the attached photo and then just welding a new patch in would be OK then?
western
should be fine provided the welding is very good.
unclemicky
I got a new mig (gas) welder at work and plated over, just like Western said.Worked out well. A mig is the way to go!!
