Shambo
My 109 Series 3 6 cylinder came with free wheel hubs which are worn out. I have removed them and they are stripped inside. Good news in a way, the half shaft is not broken and i can put some drive flanges on; which i think is better anyway. It has the 24 spline half shafts and the round style castle nut. The book says the order is drive flange, spiralox ring, distance peice, castle nut and split pin. How does the spiralox ring fit? Can i just use a washer?Looking at the drive flange i just got in the post there is a groove inside the flange (yellow arrow), does the spiralox ring sit in there or does it sit on the outside edge (green arrow)? I'm wondering if the spiralox goes inside the shaft to lock on the halfshaft to prevent end float? I dont have a spiralox ring or a distance peice and have never seen them. I dont want to fit a washer without more information as that just doesnt seem right
zoltan
The spiralox ring will fit in the groove and control end float. They seem much better at resisting end thrust than circlips. Pigs to get in and out on piston gudgeon pins
Shambo
ok thanks. do you put it in the flange first then push it on the half shaft?
Daan
I dont think the spiralox will fit in that recess. I never worked out what the recess was for, or why there was a spiralox. I do remember it sitting outside as a spacer. if memory serves me right. It is a long time ago though. Daan
Phil Hancock
The spirolox ring does go in the yellow groove and the spacer outside with the round nut on the end. If anybody says different they are talking c**p.
