jailmake
I have just fitted some new tires and wheel to my series 2 . i never had a problem with the old wheels or steering. Now when ever you hit a bump in the road it sends the wheels into a rapid wobble. and the steering bounces back and forth. The only way to stop it is to either slow down and try and hold the wheel straight, or to let go of the wheel and let them straighten up. it seems to be some kind of resonance in the new diameter of the wheels and the tolerance of the steering that traps it in a shake. It isnt a bearing thing i dont think as its not a constant problem. There is play in the steering wheel, and i thought maybe if i take some of that out then it will take the resonance out, and stop it happening. The harder you try and straighten the wheel, the worse it gets. Any advice would be great, i will be working on it over this weekend. Jon White
Check the swivel preloads that's the usual cause of death wobbles. Jon
Gazzar
also: Check the rims for wobble. Jack up the wheel, and spin it - see if the rim is perfectly flat by holding something against it like a pen resting on something sold. The tip of the pen should stay EXACTLY the same distance from the rim edge. On mine I had two rims that weren't straight - they went on the back. jailmake
i just put the front wheels on the back and back on the front and it went away. it must be the wheels balance, as they are not bent or buckled.
