Wa02ger
Good evening all. On my way home from work today I've noticed a rattle/knocking noise from under the cubby box area on my 90. At first I thought that it could be something in the cubby box so I took the few bits I had in there out and the noise continued. Also after driving over several speed bumps I noticed that on some of the bumps when the front of the vehicle compressed down on the suspension there was a grinding noise from the front and the vehicle felt for a second that it wasn't in gear properly. Any ideas on what this could be would be great, Cheers, Matt
dailysleaze
I guess eventually you'll be taking it into the dealer seeing as it's so new? But to hone it down to a specific circumstance would help them out, such as: Is it on acceleration or overrun? Turning or straight ahead. In gear, out of gear, clutch up or clutch down? When braking? Does it increase with road speed or engine speed? Does it happen in neutral when stationary? Only at certain speeds? When cold or hot? Do you have larger tyres that could run on the bodywork? Any other mods? Keep listening out for different combinations of these situations. It's a frustrating experience trying to track down a noise (ask anyone here). The steps after this would be start driving with one propshaft to eliminate front or back, but because of your warranty you may not want to go messing around too much. I know modern Defenders have a DPFs which make a weird noise when regenerating.
Wa02ger
Excellent thank you and yes it will be going back once I can track the noise down a bit further. The knocking under the cubby box sounds like a something that's loose. As for when I'm going over speedbumps it's as I come off the bump and accelerate slightly that the vehicle feels/sounds like it's comming out of gear. No mods on the vehicle, it's as it came from the factory. I'll be clocking up the miles tomorrow to hone in on the problem. Thanks for the advice ? Disco-Ron
Almost sounds like the front prop is loose! !
Wa02ger
Just been outside to wiggle the prop and the other bars. Nothing obvious seems to be loose or moving around. I'll keep hunting for the noise though. Thanks for the help ?
