sputtering, surging, dying - help!

Recommended Posts

I have an 01 Disco II with ~165K miles

I started having issues where the engine would surge for about a second when sitting at a traffic light...

It then started just dying when stopped (runs fine while moving seemingly) - would readily start

Then I had the occasional trouble starting it after driving somewhere

Over the last few months, I have replaced the cam sensor, crank sensor (both with the help of the auto shop teacher at the high school where I work), plus MAF sensor and throttle position sensor, along with the fuel pump and fuel pump relay!

Ran fine for a while, but now it's doing the SAME THINGS!

All these things are sporadic - one trip it'll drive perfectly fine, the next it'll surge at one light, then sputter and die 10 minutes later at another...

Finally got some computer software and connector and got a Cam Sensor A error code, plus an evap error code (I know I need to replace head gaskets)(or could this be when I removed the fuel pump?)

Since I already replaced cam sensor and this said "A" - could this be bad already, or is this an old code from before I replaced it?

Any other ideas what might be causing this sputtering and surging?

Thanks... and help! About to drive this thing off a cliff! :o
