TheRecklessEngineer
What I'd love most is the Ricardo electric system with drum motors on each wheel. Electric will be great - no noise, no fumes, no mess, minimal servicing, can recharge parked on the driveway, no starting problems... Not much good on an expedition vehicle, though. Seen the Luka EV? http://www.lukaev.com/about-luka.html For an expedition vehicle - suppose you strap ~5kW of solar panels to the roof and unpack them when you make camp. Would probably take at least a day to recharge, maybe 2. But then if you're doing an expedition, where's the hurry?
Snagger
Interesting. I wonder what the toque and effective BHP of those motors is. There would be plenty of space to fit batteries in the chassis spaces under the tub and in the empty engine and transmission spaces (especially with the prop shafts and exhaust gone), protecting them from impacts, so you'd be able to keep a respectable range for European/US use where recharging points would be available.
