studmuffin
Due to an injury stopping me driving, my TD5 has only started once a week when Lady S gives it a run for me. Last week when I tried starting her I just got a click when I turned the key. Then, second attempt ,she fired up. Tonight I charged up the battery just to be sure as my alarm had gone off in the middle of the night, ( I think because of some strong winds) and when I tried to start her I had a click 6 times when I tried the key before she fired up on the 7th attempt. After she fires up, she will start every time. Solenoid?? Any help gratefully received Thanks Barry
Anderzander
Sounds like solenoids - mine went like that. The odd click and then more and more often. I fixed mine with a rebuild kit off eBay - very inexpensive, albeit a bit fiddly to do lying under the truck.
Anderzander
The one I used: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291487758073
cackshifter
Yes, a friend had his do the same, eBay kit fixed it. You may be able to make it work once or twice by hitting the starter,at least thats what the RAC man did to get it going.
studmuffin
Thanks very much everyone. Ordered a kit today by phone. The guy was extremely helpful, and gave me some tips on fitting. Will have to get my nephew to fit it as my leg is still crook. Barry
Anderzander
I was amazed how eroded the contacts I removed were - have a comparison when you pull them out.
cackshifter
We decided it was more work but easier to take the starter out and do it on the bench, but then quite straightforwatd
