have checked wheel nuts/shocks /mud shields all ok and have taken it out on a drive and done a test on full lock and it made a knocking noise (not everytime) seems to be front left and also does the tinkling on pulling off and using engine to slow down or too slow for the gear your in

hello everyone

i hope someone can help me with my 95 300tdi disco ,

Q1 the noise i am hearing sounds like a tinkling metal sound, it happens on acceleration (only at pulling off) and when i take my foot off the pedal also sometimes when turning ,and when using engine braking i suspect the cv joint as i have checked the prop uj's and they seem ok.

can someone tell me how to check them as i don't want to purchase some cv's if there not needed

Q2 how hard are they to change as i have basic knowledge but a will to learn (and a workshop manual)

did mine month ago dead simple just lift boot carpet and soundproofing and there's a round plate ,unscrew the screws and remove plate and there is the top of the sender(large plstic screw cap) unscrew may need to tap around with hammer and small bar ,disconnect 3 wires and pull out, refitting is the reverse job done.

current air filter is a paper one but looks clean and will blow it out with compressor as a temp fix till i find out which one is better any suggestions ? Roy

also having removed the egr and blanking them off can i and how do i remove the round part on the top of the fuel pump

hi everyone, i have just changed my cat down pipe for a none cat one (part no.esr2297) and it seems to pull better now, cost £17.63

but it did/does smoke more when pulling off (i put this down to disturbing the middle silencer when fitting the front pipe) and its blowing the loose deposits out or is there more to it ?

did anyone else have same thing happen and do you think it will persist.

next to go is the middle silencer to be replaced with a straight through pipe

thanks for the reply old leafer ,sorry should have said both sides are not working but the brake lights do on the same bulb both sides does that mean the live is not getting to the cluster tail lights and do they all share the same earth connection and whats the colour for the tail lights feed please so i can run a feed from the bumper tail lights Roy

hello to all

just had my mot (passed) and have found out that my rear cluster tail lights do not come on but brake lights and the fog lights work and the bumper tail lights are fine, indicators fine. i have changed stop/tail light bulbs still do not work.

does any one know why or how to fix them as the garage will not give me my mot cert until i prove they are working ( got 48 hours left on old mot as he has not logged it in the data base yet ) also do not know if it is connected but trailer light on dash does not light up or sound when towing. all help is very very very welcome .
