  1. what i would like to ask is which would be better for what i want it for ? the tdi or the v8 ?

I have to agree, V8's hate the water when you'd be trialling etc, my dads V8 runs on WD40 when it even sniffs the water

Certainly the Tdi ain't gutless, my last Disco was a 300Tdi and I was very pleased with it, yes, Ok you can't race the 12yr old in his Vauxhall Corsa with all his alloys and fat exhaust pipe, but if you want that buy a Dodge Hennessey Viper Venom 800TT and be done with it.

..weighing it down with all the other add ons ie sumpguard diff guards ?

I found that adding these items to mine just reduced the clearence a bit, not the performance, but just even being sensible and sticking on some 255/85x16's on will give a bit more clearence.

    Welcome by the way!! :D

  2. I would have thought you would need to loose a lot of diesel to make that sort of impact! How about parking over a puddle for an hour and watching for any nice rainbow colours on the ground?

  3. Thanks for all this, with the fact the sender is for a 300tdi and the old one is for a 200tdi, they may even send the same message, I might just try connecting new temp guage to old sender and see if it works! I've been on thinkauto.com and they seem to have loads of adapters, just have to identify threads!

Why are things so complex all the time??? One day I will do a job and it will all work magically first time! [/fairyland mode off]

  4. I'm in the middle of replacing the mismatched temp sender (engine = 200tdi Disco), I bought a new sender & temp gauge with proper degrees on it and everyfing (Non LR).

Trouble is the screw threads are different sizes, bit to big to even bodge with PTFE tape!!

I have heard one can get adapters for this but what am I looking for?? (something to stick into google would be a start)

The old one is on the left and the new shiney small one is my problem!

  5. I'm sorry for coming over all simple and excited, and I know loads of you chaps/ettes have done this before (and bigger) but, I was amazed at the difference in my new tyres!

I have mostly posted this as it would have been useful to me when I was choosing tyres!

    From a 205x70x16 to a 235x85x16. I know its not much but i'm easily pleased!!! :D

  6. Yeh, but look now, he has posted the question that someone else has has asked ( ), so its all upfront, its not a series III is a 90 'hybrid' built in 1981.

Wow, must be worth at least £100,000, as its the only 90 prototype before the designers got pen to paper

Edited - What appears to be an annoyed reply from the seller states: "Right, on the log book it clearly states that the vehicle is an 88inch-4 cylinder. As I said, it is a 90, shortened to an 88inch. This is known as a 'Hybrid'."

So there you go. An 88inch is a shortened 90. Where do you make the 2" cut??

  7. Thanks for the info guys and the warm welcome :D I didn't get one in the end, but my Dad bought it! EVEN BETTER!

Its a V8 and sounds like the dogs danglies! No rust to speak of, but as the Land Rover nut in the family, I get the servicing and repair jobs!

With that in mind I will be using the knowledge here, so I'll be keeping a closer eye on this section from now on!

  8. From a UK perspective, we have a smattering around these parts (Co. Durham), which means that tommorow there will be:

people driving at 4mph on the motorways

    using foglights

braking hard when they see foglights

setting off to work 8 hrs early 'cos its snowing

filling up with fuel incase of shortage

having to leave work early 'cos its snowing

and then, blaming everyone else for driving like idiots in the 'ever so slightly damp' weather.....

    Of course, myself excluded! :D

  9. Ebay "strongly discourage" using instant cash transfer services such as MoneyGram or Western Union.

With no feedback, dodgy name and unwilling to meet, then I think an e-mail to the fraud dept on ebay is the next step. If s/he's legit then no worries, but these criminals are exploiting this 'un-policed' area of sales and are netting thousands of pounds from unsuspecting customers! Report 'em and get the b@$t@*ds behind bars!! Grrrr

  10. yep, as above, and I carry a collapsable shovel in both vehicles at all times too. When I venture off road I step up to carrying spare parts as well!

At this time of year I also have my winter kit in the vehicles too:

    1x spare set clothes

    1x set waterproofs

    1x set of thermals

    wellies (pair of)

    woolly hat, socks and gloves

    Sleeping bag

    Treking pole

Instep crampons (a bit overkill in the UK!)

I have at one time or another needed every bit of kit! (mostly in bluddy traffic jams on motorways in 1mm of snow!!)

  11. I've scoured the interweb for hours trying to find a download for a Defender Parts catalogue.

I have the workshop manual, but to see the bit 'exploded' helps me no-end. Also I find that the local parts shop smile when you have a part number!

Has anyone seen one on the net available for download??
