  1. I really must learn not to go poking about with a screwdriver
  2. so after several years in normal car wilderness I have found myself back in the Landrover fold with the acquisition of a 1995 D1 V8....I must be mad! and indeed after revealing to "er indoors" I had just had an ebay moment of madness with a speculative bid on a discovery I thought i was about to be divorced but i think she'll come round, this is after all the sixth disco we have had after 4 D1's and a D2 Td5 anyway hello to all again
  3. well there were some faults to do with the front abs sensors by the look of it, they,ve been reset and so far alls well so we,ll just have to keep an eye on it now and see what happens
  4. thanks all for the replies i,ll let you know how i get on with it
  5. having searched this topic all over the place i cant find a definitive reply about having to get it turned off but all advice seems to be get it hooked up to a computer somewhere, also the other question if all these lights are on can it still be driven without causing any damage to anything until i can get to somewhere that can read it?
  6. Hi all, I have had 4 warning lights come on the dash of my "04" discovery, the 3 amigoes and a brake warning light. Checking round the wheels i find the near side rear hub bearings are gone and leaking oil and have lots of play so duly replace said hub and fit new sensor, trouble is the lights are still on and wont go off, do i need to get it hooked up now to get the lights turned off or is there another fault going on? thanks in advance for any replies
  7. they do flash when you lock with the fob as normal but 5 mins later you get this constant "tick tock" clicking from somewhere behind the light cluster, suppose i could take the light out and see whats in there
  8. Hi all, I have an 04 td5 auto discovery with an odd fault, when you lock it up on the fob and set the alarm most of the time its fine but recently there is a ticking noise coming from the rear rhs light cluster much akin to a relay clicking on and off like the indicators were running, if i unlock it wait then relock it it goes away any ideas as to whats doing it welcome
  9. Hi I have a 2004 TD5 disco with an odd and intermittent fault thats started to become a pain, when you get in and try to start it will wind over but not fire, leave it 5 mins or re lock the car and unlock it again and retry and it starts fine and will probably be fine for weeks before it does it again, question is do td5,s suffer from immobiliser faults?
  10. Hi all ive searched for a post on the m and s lights coming on for the auto box in a td5 disco but cant find anything, would i be right thinking this may be a battery fault? they came on once today when i started it up after a brief stop i stopped again switched it off while trying to work out why they were on restarted and they went off, not been on since any advice? cheers
  11. thanks les i had read that and was expecting to see some oil somewhere in the plug but everything was dry, i,ll have to keep an eye on it and see if it happens again
  12. I have yes i thought that may be a problem so have looked inside, cant see any where water has been or is
  13. Hi all, i have come into td5 ownership about 2 months ago purchasing an 04 landmark disco auto and all has been fine until yesterday, while driving along a dual carriagway at about 60 the engine lost power and appeared to run very lumpy, i pulled over and tried revving it out of gear and above 2500rpm there was a pronounced"miss" I,ve read all the tech archives etc about poor running ,oil in looms etc and have checked the ecu plug, fuel lines and maf sensor but all appear ok, took it for a run this morning and all was normal admittedly i was driving in a torrential rain storm yesterday but would this affect the running? is this a symptom or early warning of a problem developing with the injector loom? thanks for any suggestions
  14. I have just had to fit a britpart waterpump as i couldnt get a genuine anywhere and was desperate, the place i bought from only keeps these as a last resort and apologised profusely for having to sell it to me and gave me discount, he also stated check it regularly as it will fail i,m now paranoid
  15. well after pulling the car to bits today and tracing the wires i,ve found the fault some weeks ago i replaced both the rear door hinges, unbeknown to me the wires for the rear demist and the high level brake light run right next to the upper door hinge and i didnt see them when fitting the hinge and managed to trap them together between the hinge and the door when i bolted it in although not earthing they had become joined hence the rear demist coming on when the brake was applied, will learn from that mistake
  16. well i,ve found the communal earth inside the back quarter and seperated all the wires out so now nothing is linked together and the rear screen is disconnected from earth and positive and ....it still makes the wire live when the brake is pressed, is there any other communal wiring points? whats the multifunction unit ? i keep see it referred to in the haynes book
  17. thanks for that dooroy i,ll have a look and see what i find
  18. does anyone have any decent wiring diagrams that might show any shared circuits/
  19. having disconnected the rear screen element and the switch and the relay i,m pretty sure it must be getting a short across from the brake wire that feeds the lights as the rear screen wire(according to the diagram i have) goes from the switch to the element, does anyone know where the loom runs front to back
  20. My 300tdi ES auto 98my has a curious electrical fault thats started today when you apply the brakes the rear window demist light on the demist switch comes on, with no brakes on everything works as normal, now i suspect a chaffed wire somewhere feeding the switch but having been out to drop off daughter i stopped at her friends went to switch off the engine and it wouldnt turn off and the check engine light was glowing dimly, reinserting the key and switching it back to on i removed my foot from the brake and switched off as normal, are there any common chafe points i should be looking at? the fault only seems to occur when the brake pedal is pressed and i cant get it to replicate the not switching the engine off part. any suggestions welcome
  21. I,ve just bought one from here for a van ardent
  22. it can be done, the hardest part is getting the drop arm off first, then it becomes fiddly and you get a wet arm, usually its a precurser to a new box but i replaced the seal in mine just over 2 years ago and its been dry since
  23. because its a sealed system you have to prove that you,ve leak tested it with Nitrogen before its gassed, if the Environment agency came in to my work they would ask to see our nitrogen test kit before anything else if we didnt have it-automatic fine they require proof that you can test the system. If had a system that was empty i would have to test before going anywhere near it with refrigerant you wouldnt be able to gas the system as you need a gas handling certificate and a citb licence to be able to use refrigerant. you could in theory fit the system then call in an aircon company to test and fill it i believe but it may be different where you are, local rules apply as it were
