  1. by all means have a go fitting the system yourself and take note of the advice given on here as some of it is sound but if your doing it in the uk be quick after the end of may you need a licence to work on automotive aircon and empty systems must be tested with nitrogen to leak test before gassing, a large fine and/or custodial sentence can occur if you get caught. getting the system size correct so you have the right amount of gas in will be the fun bit to work out, too much gas or too little will cause problems
  2. had this on a friends the metal conductors or whatever they are in the heater part of the seat break and then you get a hot spot its an overlay that sticks to the foam of the seat, you can replace them but its a fiddly pain of a job taking the seat to bits
  3. releasing the gas to atmosphere carries heavy fines and or jail terms if you get caught so best not to you will also need a license to carry out any work to an aircon system after july this year bsides that you need the correct equipment
  4. I fitted the lower seal to mine on the output shaft, the worst part was getting the steering arm off it took all of a 10 tonne hydraulic puller and a little heat to crack it off. once off there is a circlip and a spacer if i remember right then you can get the seal out, it was awkward to get the new one in past the circlip groove and took some patience to do but the box has been dry for 2 years now
  5. they would have charged it with nitrogen to find the leak, he wouldnt or shouldnt have used gas as its illegal for one, carries a possible £20k fine for 2 and a possible custodial term for three it will be here after july where i work we have to be licensed by then to work on mibile systems fitted to agricultural equipment, quite handy as i can do my own landy as well then
  6. the best way to top up your aircon is to get a proffessional to do it, dont be fooled into thinking its an easy 5 minute diy job with a halfords special, topping up with these types of refill can does not take into account any moisture in the system and can lead to the system failing or at worst having a pipe explode(yes it does happen), as said if your aircon is not working it needs the proper maintenance carried out knowingly topping up an aircon system that has a leak also carries large fines and/or jail terms all aircon people should have a certificate of competence and from july this year will need to be licensed
  7. i have used southern rebores in the past and they have always been very good they also do crack testing or they did last time i used them, there is also a company called QEP in burgess hill that do the same
  8. you dont have the samer dealer as this? rimini red defender late delivery as its the same colour as yours i wondered?
  9. to accuratly leak test an aircon system you need to de gas it and fill with a nitrogen charge to find the leak, any good aircon company should do this as they should have nitrogen to be able to leak test, it will soon be a requirement by law to have nitrogen to do this. you can have the dye injected into the system , this will enable the leak to be detected easily using soapy water can be done but dont use fairy liquid neat on aluminuim pipes it can corrode them there is a non corrosive leak detector available that dont corrode them using a little bit of gas to find the leak is also illegal and should hse or environment agency find out its a big fine and poss jail sentence
  10. explorers can tow quite big boats
  11. i,ve just had this very same noise appear on a disco i have and i managed to finally track it down after driving me mad, the pins holding the front brake pads appear to have no anti rattle springs on them which was making them jingle as i drove along
  12. you could fit something like this truck aircon
  13. alternatively use the kitchen worktop although its maybe best to check the wife,s out first
  14. i have found on one i,m doing up at the minute the inlet manifold full of the marmite deposits from the egr etc and also the turbo hoses had started to collapse
  15. how about this one then she,s a v12 V12 on garage floor
  16. check under the bonnet for the vacuum hose that runs from the throttle actuator round the bulhead to the pump inside the left hand recess behind the headlight, you may find the hose has split and wont hold a vacuum at some point on one of the joins
  17. can you just unplug the solenoid to prevent it working or do you have to blank it off to make sure?
  18. i dismantled mine one day to see what was wrong nothing fancy in there just a couple of shafts and some bearings
  19. this is how the DIRAVI system works it shows a mechanical link to the rack and explains how the hydraulics work citroen steering
  20. what about this then? "When there is no pressure available to operate the ram, the steering wheel will move the rack by normal mechanical means" syurely this means there is a mechanical setup along side the hydraulic system?
  21. the rigid volvo,s i have driven with rear steer have a mechanical linkage down the side of the chassis connected to the rear wheels which work in conjunction with the front axle to turn the rear wheels the artics have a linkage system from the rear trailer wheels to the fifth wheel connection on the trailer, this is activated by the tractor units coupling turning against the trailer and working the linkage
  22. Agricultural tractors are allowed hydraulic steering upto 60 kph now as jcb have taken advantage of this to launch 2 new models of fastrac which are capable of this speed that have full hydraulic steering systems
  23. you could try here sussex autos they are a torque converter specialist we use them at work to rebuild leaking converters
