  1. We will be easy to find, just look for the pig.
  2. Just a couple more pics. This is way over ride height so don't worry about prop angles and stuff. Rear suspension And look, it is a Land Rover, lol, FB
  3. The coilovers are custom built by Leda. 16" travel, adjustable damping, rebound and high speed blow off. 1 coil has been removed so the thing will sit roughly right, but it will get dropped a few more inches. Frame was built by a race car fab company more used to working for people like Ascari. Not really a DIY job as it needed an enormous CNC hydraulic bender. There are a few clearance issues to be resolved (nothing major), just the things you can really only identify as it goes together. We will be at Billing this weekend so pop over and say Hi. But don't put finger marks on the shiny bits!!! It's not for getting dirty (yet) FB PS thanks for all the nice comments
  4. Just some shiny stuff So much to polish!!!! FB
  5. Staun beadlocks fitted properly and maintained are excellent. Light and legal. Mechanical beadlocks add a lot of rotational mass. FB
  6. Steve I have 15 of 3/4 inch heavy duty with 7/8" shank, PTFE lined from Aurora on my links. I may just have said they are consumable but I am not looking forward to the day I have to change the damn things! FB
  7. Spent a long time lookimg into joints. The motor racing guys were not too helpful because they either don't run in dirt (circuit cars) or they replace them really often (rally cars). The best advice for running all day in mud and carp came from companies supplying joints to the mining and quarrying industry (as well as motorsport). They use PTFE lined, 3 piece rod ends as they have much closer tolerance so less room for grit and they prefer non-greasable as the grease attracts more muck. Also, the same size joint with a grease nipple will have a much lower radial load rating. The problem with rebuildable ones is that they have a lower lateral load rating than a fully staked 3 piece joint so again you need to go bigger for the same strength. And, while you can rebuild the inners, this does nothing for the outers which will stretch even on the highest quality joints. So, buy the best 3 piece PTFE lined you can and treat them as a consumable. Or you can buy pretty good rod ends, PTFE lined, 2 piece that are reasonable and will just need replaced sooner. Not that Jim's aren't lurvely!!! FB
  8. Sounded good though! lol It does bend easier though
  9. Old scaffold poles (where's the pirate style flipoff smilie???? ) BUt we remembered to grind the galvanising off. The big tube is 2" 2mm and the smaller is 1.5" 2mm. All seamless, special ductile steel with very good ultimate yield so should survive the odd tree. Clubman 500 FB
  10. I realised that. SO I threw away the whole thing apart from the engine, transmission and axle casings. Then started afresh. Exhaust is the least of my challenges! Surprising, it is quite a big overall thing but there is soooo little space. There are these big void spaces effectively lost to accommodate the coilovers and travel. FB
  11. FB, That's what I will be doing in a couple of weeks, at the moment I draw hot water from heater like Will and it is not good enough. It stays at about 70c normally but a lot higher when worked hard. Peter Peter Never understood the heater hose deal. It fits so easily in the bottom hose. Only problem is you do have to lose the viscous fan. FB
  12. We won't know for certain if the Td5 sump will fit until it's in, but it has been designed from scratch to all work together. The engine sits so far back it should be okay. If it's not then we will either modify the sump, dry sump it (yeah right!!!!) or bend the links. FB
  13. Will Its really easy to just chop out a section of the bottom hose, pop in your Laminova (the big one just fits OD and lengthwise) and plumb it in. And you just need to make up a mount for it that fits neatly on the front cross member. Easy-peasy and almost free! FB
  14. Thanks for the comments. Here is the Disco with the tube work done. Couple of views of the internal cage And a little preview of the front suspension on the other And the central cross member FB
  15. I run a Laminova in my bottom hose on a Td5 and my auto box runs at 60 to 70 degrees C all day long. FB
  16. So if this and vehicles like it turn up to an event where scruineering requires road legal vehicles what will happen? It needs an SVA for the tube conversion. NO SVA no entry?? Somehow I doubt it but it needs to happen. (Same for people running non-approved tyres.) The only reason to do this to the rear of a vehicle is to use decent tube and change all the suspension to 4 links and coilovers (or quarter eliptics). Otherwise it is seems pretty pointless. But if it's what the guy wants to do then more power to him. Just get an SVA. But then they say "its a spaceframe rear chassis". What does that mean??? Is it a spaceframe or a chassis? Get the basics right before you do radical engineering. By the way, been looking at a "true" spaceframe with torsional rigidity of 7500 Nm per degree. Thats about twice a "normal" monocoque saloon car! FB
  17. South East England at a secret location !!! Visit only allowed after strict vetting! FB
  18. A few more pics from today. A mad lady protecting the delicate tube work A nice weld The other thing in primer, just resting on its axles and about to go home for some building FB
  19. Will "not for you" SO it's commando then????? FB
  20. Will I hope you mean you like both vehicles and not both crotchless and buttless mens underwear!!!!! FB
  21. "Ps they wern't crotchless they were buttless." Seem to remember when you demonstrated them there was a defintie lack of fabric in the crotch reason as evidenced by something swinging in the breeze. Unless you are thinking about your attire on some other event????? Maybe a night out clubbing in your buttless chaps??? YEEEEEHAAAAAAA!!! FB
  22. 6 wheel Phil aka Mr Langham Forget the Camel Sh***er. Come and co-drive for TEAM FILTH, you will even get a "FILTHY BIATCH" T-shirt. I'll bring the buggy if you bring your crothless boxer shorts. FB
  23. Thanks. The Disco will compete. "fully tubed 90" is actually a proper spaceframe, fully TIG welded, nice tube, 104" wheelbase, triangulated 4 links front and rear, custom coilovers with engine and transmission virtually in the middle, apparently!!! Should be sweet! FB
