  1. We have an explore tough tablet, I know that is not exactly a tough book but we run it using a gps mouse and rarely use a modem at all, it is wireless and will connect to any available unsecured network which is usually enough for us. On the subject of 3g I have an iphone which is 3g with unlimited downloads and will connect to t'internet more or less anywhere (at differing speeds) this costs me £30 a month but I have been warned to make sure roaming is disconnected if I go abroad or I might need a second mortgage. Hope this helps B
  2. The more you get out of 'tourist areas' the less likely the chance of anyone speaking English! I can echo the value of knowing some basic motoring terms - I have had to describe things in terms of the thingy that you press to make it do this or the doobery firkin which works that! I have now learnt all manner of techie words in Spanish that no-one ever taught me even at degree level. I also had occasion once to try and get a new tyre in Germany and had to go and ask for a round black thing! Snow chains def - we could have done with those over Christmas! The weather forecasts actually specify when snow chains are obligatory on certain roads. All that aside I would say go for it - I have a fondness for Spain. BUT I would rather have my fingernails pulled out than go to the tourist traps of the Costas, the interior has so much to offer. Barbara
  3. Came home to find the window blown right open (it was on the tiny gap setting and locked when I left) the curtains blowing out of the window and the curtain pole wrenched off. There is a outdoor tub about 100m down the track and round the corner, no proof but I think it is possibly one of mine. I reckon we've got off lightly as there are probably few houses more exposed than ours in the whole of the UK. B
  4. Hello or should I say Hola Yes I am registered on here, and yes I am fluent in Spanish, and yes I will help. Just give me a shout with what's required. The folk on the Spanish Land rover forum are a helpful bunch and to be honest a lot of them will probably speak English if push comes to shove. If you want to post on there, the best bet is to do it in the forum belonging to the Comunidad where you are intending travelling. I might be best to register, post in Spanish but with a plea for replies in English if possible. If not I will happily translate them for you. Barbara
  5. I know, I know, I can be bribed with either red wine or expensive chocolates Only trouble is I don't get quite so generous hols being a teacher, I have to settle for school hols, so I generally spend the first day of each holiday at airports flying out to catch up with him. Tho this Christmas we are actually leaving and coming back together - we haven't done that for a couple of years. LOL Barbara PS Didn't bother waiting for him to disappear to make a cuppa this time actually signed in on my own.
  6. Not in the slightest I am sure, just looking for displacement activities. B
  7. Why do computers always conspire to make you look an utter dork! There am I saying how wonderful this is and what do I manage to do? Post it twice!!!!! Doh!! B
  8. It is wonderful to come across a landrover forum which has kicked the Series 1 attributes into touch and acutally made it into the 21st century. (And appeals to the inner geek ) I don't mind classic in its place, but its place is not an internet forum B
