  1. *doh* I might have left some brain cells on that track too and disconnecting the anti-sway bars? Will the extra articulation help in these conditions?
  2. Yep, allday trip. The distance from the farmhouse to the top of the mountain is approx 6km, and it takes about 2hours in these conditions. In the dry season it should be much easier & faster. Altitude is 2249m from sea level and approx 2000m from the farmhouse.
  3. Hi all We had an epic trip to Matroosberg on Sunday. I left some scrapes of the rear diff there, could even see them on the way back down the mountain! I am thinking now that I need some more ground clearance, maybe a 2inch lift? The one thing that I really liked about the D2: just put foot and the TC sorts you out. Except the one hill which was muddy and all I ended up doing was going backwards while all the wheels were driving forward. A quick reverse and 2nd Low momentum sorted that out, but it was touch and go for a few minutes  On the way back, I found it very tricky when going downhill in mud/slippery rocks because when you stand on the brakes in 1st Low, I think what happens is the ABS tries to stop you from locking up and releases the brakes selectively and I ended up slipping sideways quite a bit My white hair count has definitely gone up after this trip! Some pics from the trip: http://picasaweb.google.com/n.sunassee/Matroosberg#
  4. mine is pulling to the left under braking. My mechanic said he fixed a stuck calliper, but after a couple of weeks it's doing it again. I really cannot afford new pads + discs
  5. thanks cipx, will these fit in the park light socket then: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/jsp/item/Item.js...radeId=13154692 or http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/jsp/item/Item.js...radeId=13000955?
  6. Hi all Can anyone confirm whether the front park lights on a facelift D2 are type T10? If not, what model are they? thanks!
  7. indeed. SWAMBO once packed her friends and a tent in her Freelander and went road-tripping all over Botswana, and crossed the Magadikgadi Pans without any issues. They only got stuck once because throughout the trip she didn't let down her tyres since leaving Joburg
  8. it all depends on what the old one was. Go for a battery that has a higher CCA than the previous one if possible, but don't go any lower than 79
  9. Hi guys I want to upgrade the headlights on my D2 with Osram NightBreakers. Will I have to buy 4 bulbs, i.e., 2 for main and 2 for dipped?
  10. erm, I just unbolted the terminals, positive first (as the manual said), is that bad?
  11. thanks for the advice guys. Anything special I need to do when removing/inserting the battery?
  12. Hi all My main battery has been on its way out since I got it, and I have been using the deep-cycle one to help start the engine in the morning. Came back home from a trip over Easter to find the battery has died. Unfortunately I left the aux switch on, and the deep-cycle is also flat. I'm thinking I should just replace the main battery now. What battery should I replace the main one with? Can I replace it with another deep-cycle or is that not recommended? Any advice is most welcome, thanks
  13. follow-up question - if this is normal, why does it happen? Anyone know the technical explanation? The only other diesel I drive is SWAMBO's A3, and it doesn't do that. You lift off the accelerator, and the revs drop to a smooth idle straight away. Granted, it's a 2007 model and way less tractor-like
  14. ah, I assumed that the torque converter on the D2 was designed to hold it on an incline
  15. ok, cool. no, I meant at idle. Basically I was at the top of the incline, and took my foot off the brake pedal and was expecting the car to crawl forward, like my gf's Ausi A3 TDi does, but the Disco just rolled back. scared me a bit, thank goodness there weren't any neighbours behind me!
  16. Hi all I'm hoping to get answers to 2 issues I might be having with my D2. It's been a month now since I've had my D2 Td5, and it goes like a bomb. Issue #1 I've started noticing (mostly in traffic) that when I take my foot off the accelerator, the engine doesn't idle smoothly, it kinda goes into a 'staccato' pattern, and then eventually smooths out into a normal idle. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with the firing sequence? Issue #2 Also, on a steep incline coming out of the basement parking this weekend, I had to stop to wait for another car to clear the exit. When I took my foot off the brake, I was expecting it to crawl up, but it just couldn't and went backwards. Is that normal or is the transmission fubar? any opinions would be much appreciated, thanks
  17. if ur talking about the OEM tyres as fitted by LR, they are rubbish off-road. Good enough for tar, but not much else.
  18. which begs the question - would that TDV8 fit in a Disco2 Td5, and will the gearbox cope?
  19. thanks, it sounds like what was happening. The TC light would come on when we drove over corrugations.
  20. Hi all this weekend SWAMBO & I went driving on some gravel roads around the Western Cape southern coast and a couple of times the TC light came on, but I didn't hear any noises nor felt the D2 behave differently (unlike the HDC) - is that normal?
  21. Mark, the previous owner got that made. It is a commercial one, although lots of guys here in SA build their own. I will take some close-up shots during this weekend and post them here.
  22. have a look at the drawer system in mine, which includes a water tank. Fridge & bags go on top.
  23. no, that's because countries that don't use gallons actually have real off-roading. Greenlaning is what grannies in wheelchairs do around here
  24. thanks, after much searching, I found it in the manual - 9L when the light comes on. Btw - gallons? No one told you Brits that this is the 21st century?
