i used to run a ir qt1 in the workshop and it was epic!!!!
was even better when i changed my air point to full 10mm fittings and hoses (inc gun)
used to undo truck wheel nuts with ease (torqued up to 680nm then rusted on)
but as said the compressor is the limiting factor

Hi all
well the recent purchase for the wife is making noises !!!
its a 2001 hippo 1.8 manual
its done 117k but in good nick with mostly fsh and original owner untill nov
anyway when purchased did all the usual tests of reversing on full lock etc all ok all tho did feel like some drag present
had 2 new tyres fitted to the rear still all ok
done another 200 miles or so still ok
went into a different part of town the other day and had some very high yet short speed humps and front suspension made some funny noises
next day went out again only now when on full lock there is a clunking/knocking noise both forward and back and left and right no noise other than on full lock
start to panic thinking oh no ird gone!!!
so yesterday removed prop/vcu and tried noise is still there
BUT i think the car has been stood for a good while recently as all window rubbers are green and moss in roof rails etc sp im thinking could this noise be from the inner cv joints ??? could they have gone really dry and cause such a noise? any one else experianced this?
im thinking maybe the jolt from the speed humps pushed the bearing rollers further into the cups than they have been for a long time and maybe knocked some rust/carp out of them ?????
please tell me i havent got another pup!!!!!!!!

Thanks Ralph but i dont think it is that one
its the horizontal strip (like a waist seal) but is at the top of the window

no they cant be sleeved but you can replace the liner very easily once the piston is out (no special tools reqd or anything)
i would rebuild my own engine unless a known good second hand unit was available

still loving this thing loads
awsome

I thought the v6 was better than the 1.8 in the HG department as it is not bolted through like the 1.8, more traditional in that the head bolt screw into the block not through into the sump oil rail....... mmmm, every day is a school day.
Gaz
head bolts for the v6 are the same as the 4 cylinder k series
both have the same construction type
that said the v6 is less prone to hg failure

kv6 head gaskets is a big job to do (as in lots of work because there is 2 heads!!) but is a fairly simple engine to work on
hardest bit will be getting timing tools to time it all up right and dont turn it over with no heads on as the liners will lift off there seats
if you need any advice give me a yell as have done loads of these being a ex mg rover dealer tech

this will be a monster when done
very envious of your work

i used to think alot about this very question
i have had lots of rrc,s over the years (six at last count) and wanted a range rover again
i decided in the end to go for a p38 despite its fearsome reputation (i figured no rust was worth the risk)
i got a 2001 spec 4.6 vogue in oslo blue with lightstone leather with 128k miles on the clock with fsh
to be 100% honest its great
everything works bar the seat heaters and rear screen wash (both very common faults)
i have since buying it replaced most of the wheel nuts for the old swollen nuts problem
and all air bags as the old ones were perished so better safe than sorry as it was
i like it alot and the wife loves it even at 16ish mpg
one thing as said above is try lots and if any doubt walk away as alas these are very much a case of people THINK because they can afford to buy it they can afford to run it
the reality is often they can barely afford to put fuel in it so maintance suffers (5 of the ones i looked at were proof of this)
they also seem to be very twitchy on the wrong tyres on 18 inch wheels as mine tramlines badly on its coopers but when i tried my friends same hurricanes on it with at2,s on it was a different car to drive
o and the throttle body heater plate tends to leak alot but very cheap and easy to fix
enjoy Rob

cool should be able to pick up a rotten old disco for that
-
thanks chaps
off road wont be a issue unless you mean his driveway lol
its more a toy to him that he loves along with the v8 sound track of course
for ease of install would prob go carbs unless whoever he gets to do the work is happy to wire up the efi/mega squirt/jolt
would the disco axles drop straight under the 90? (thinking it would be easyer to the axles are up to it)
and what sort of money would a 200tdi complete set up fetch (engine/lt77/rad/intercooler etc etc) fetch?? (this will have a good bearing on if he gets this done or not)

Hi all
my friend has currently got a mint d90 200tdi on galv chassis
problem is he is used to sporty cars and wants more go
he would also like a auto box too
so my thinking was to maybe get hold of a old rotten v8 auto disco (shouldnt be too hard lol)
and drop the engine/box/t box and disco axles into the defender
so my questions are what pit falls are there to doing this?
does anyone know of anyone in lancashire that could do the work (my friend is a spanner spaz and im 300 miles away so giving him a hand wont be easy)
and before anyone says tune up the tdi it will never sound like a v8 and thats enough of a reason for him lolol

hi all
my mate has a 200tdi 90 on a galv chassis
problem is he is used to more go so wants to up the power
so thinking the cheapest way forward would be to drop a v8 in along with his prefered auto box (given the price of disco v8,s would prob buy a complete car for the engine and box)
so can anyone on here recommend some one in lancashire to do the work (ie drop off the 90 and disco and collect a v8 powered auto 90) and any ideas of costs involved?
o one thing to note is the 90 has a galv chassis
thanks Rob

my boss runs a early d2 td5 and tows lots of heavy trailers while loaded and the thing is killing bearmach hd springs in weeks

slight lift (1 or 2 inch) is good also

Hi all
I have recently got myself a late disco 1 auto v8 and would rather it was a manual
So my question is will a box from a tdi be ok?
Also once in would my props be ok or are they different lengths?
Cheers Rob
