  1. Hi

the t series engine has hydralic tappets mounted under the cams so no adjustments or push rods

easy way to sort out what ones have gone soft remove cam covers and press the lifters down with a screw driver to check for any soft ones (with cam lobe pointing upwards)

  3. I suppose stripping the gear box and trans is normal practice after a service. :o

Must take you quite a while, every 6000 miles. Not heard of this before and LR haven't put it in there workshop manual. I'll write tham a letter to suggest to include it. :D

    dont be so soft ;)

but yes i would have checked the gearbox and transfer box oil levels (well changed them actually) very soon after purchase (as you was told to do when you first got the car!!)

  4. I had a load of bits acid dipped a while back by (I think) a commercial engine reconditioning place, I don't think they actually dipped them in acid for some reason but used a posh industrial heated tank parts washer, I have never seen engine bits look so clean & bright in all my life!

most truck/commercial garages have hot tank washers too so ask at your local one ;)

i used to work in a merc one and used to put my rangies wheels in there to clean them :o:lol:

(if its delicate items they need restraining as the basket spins like crazy and turn the water jet temps down they can go up to 180 degs (approx))

  5. no worries. I can only thanks you all for your help.

I'm presuming {mistake number 1 never presume anything with landrover allways check) all other lube was good but i never checked all the boxes and holes (most not all). Its only literally done 500 miles since it was serviced by the last owner. He did it himself but he's a landy guy and i trust he knows what he's doin (mistake number 2 just because he is a landy guy does not mean he knows what he is doing)

Cue the barrage of negative you've been ripped off, didn't check, blah blah. Which is completely unhelpful. I suppose everyone who gets a serviced car back from the "garage" checks all the levels rather than trust them. All i can say is all the things he said needed doing, did need doing and i'm doing them. This seems like a 200,000 miles failiure to me but thats based on nothing so far.

    Thanks guys.

i do check my cars levels after its been in a garage yes

and i allways go over my new purchase with a fine tooth comb regardless of what the seller says its had done!!

and with the last paragraph there yes people saying you have got a pup is unhelpfull but then thats there opinion that they are entitled to ;)

  6. i just looked up the W12.. what awsome bit of engineering..

  7. IMHO the snap on guns dont compare, I have the 3/8 version of the magnesium snap on one recommended above and its awful; loud, heavy and expensive. I have the Ingersoll Rand 2135QTI recommended in this thread and its faultless; smooth, quiet, powerfull and light, it will be plenty man enough for land rover work. Mine can manage truck wheel nuts with the compressor at 160psi, in fact it has cuased several 32 and 33mm sockets to be replaced by snap on under warranty.

There is a new version of the 2135QTI now available, a colleage has one (warranty replacement for his 2135) and its slightly better in all respects, this new model may cause a price drop on the presumably discontinued 2135 so shop around. There are some good second user examples on ebay

    HTH

    100% agree with that

use to work in a landrover/rover main dealer and i had the above gun every one else has snap on ones and mine was the only one that could undo honda crank pully bolts unaided

snap on guns = poo im afraid (heavy/noisy/and no where near there rated output)

  8. no probs chap

i 'removed' mine after it stopped it starting a few times

there have been a few threads on the ddis set up and general concensus is its a touch unreliable

just to note your car wont have a spider for the imobiliser as the box on the pump does it

let us know how you get on

    Rob

  9. thats a ddis immobiliser box (and its poo)

carefully break that off with a gentle hammer and chisel (it has break off security bolts fitted holding it on with a bar behind the solenoid)

then connect the centre wire to the top of the solenoid (after you have fitted a ring connector) thats under it jobs a good one ;)

  10. sounds like fuel drain down

best way to be sure is run a pipe into a can of diesel if prolem goes away you have a hole in a pipe somewhere allowing air in

first place to look is sender unit in the tank where the pipes come out

also check the injector leak off pipes too
