  1. thanks alot philip...so i boosted the turbo from the waste gate without installing the turbo box...is it wrong? cos the car runs fine without the box. and when i accelerate and get to the 18psi mark the car doesn't drop power or something. i am asking cos i don't want to make any damage and mayb in some time i kill the turbo or any other part. thanks
  2. hi guys... this is for the td5 gurus out there i have a pre 2002 td5, fitted with a post 2002 ecu and remapped for stage 2. i was going to buy a turbo boost box so that the ecu wont give an over boost when i boost it to 18 psi for better performance and to reduce the black smoke since i had the remap. but my problem is...i discovered that pre 2002 td5s' turbo boost is not controlled through a soleniod (like the one used for the egr) but the boost is mechanically controlled from the waste gate! so its useless for me to have one of those turbo boxes! right? now i opened the waste gate to 18psi! but my question is...how will the ecu know that it is over boosted now!?? when i drove it everything was ok and the famous black smoke that i used to have behind me has gone that was my scope! but is it healthy for the engine doind what i did? thanks alot guys! Gil
  3. hi guys, i have my difflock dashboard lamp not coming on when i engage the difflock, and for sure it is engaging cos i tried it yesterday!! the dashboard lamp is unlikely to go since its an led...right or? do u think its the switch with the box? how do i get to it...removing the centre tunnel?? thanks guys! Gil
  4. thanks platicbadger for your help! gil
  5. thanks for the advice mates....by any chance do you know if a brand of shocks that will fit upside down and work normally? gil
  6. hi guys...what happens if i fit my front es9000's upside down...(shaft with the axle) will they work normally? will this damage them? i have the double shock mounts on the front and at full travel the outer shock touches with the spring. i thought that if i fit them upside down i solve the problem since the shaft end is much thinner then the body of the shock. thanks gil
  7. the thing is SteveG that on low the right pedal becomes less sensitive so you have to press it much more then u do on high to have the same power. when u unplug this sensor this problem is solved. thats what i was told! now i remove it and see the difference! gil
  8. No faults till now. just did a diagnostic check last week at my dealer. i complained to him re this lag on low and that while climbing steep hills it stalls all the time and he told me to unplug that sensor. one last question...cos i'm afraid to unplug the wrong sensor...is this plug fixed to a metal bracket? its not a sensor fixed directly to the transfer case like the difflock switch (for the dash light) its just a plug with wires on both sides! thanks alot for the help guys. i really appreciate. Gil
  9. Hi all, Td5's tend to have alot of lag when driving on low, it is a safety feature sort of to prevent you from breaking shafts and other related stuff. i was told to remove a socket from the transfer case so that the ecu won't know that you changed to low and will keep the lag as on high meaning very few lag. is this true? can anyone explain to me please where this sensor is so that i disconnect it and have some decent power on low when offroading. it really annoys me cos when climbing steep hills u have to press hard with your right foot to have some decent power. its like that the accelerator pedal becomes less sensitve. thanks Gil
  10. thanks alot guys, i went for the ones at challenger 4x4..i prefer the pipe type ones rather then the box aluminuin channel..i think they r stronger. thanks for your help gil
  11. hi all, from where to buy body sliders please...those that fit on the doors and tub...for a defender. thanks
  12. thanks western... so if i drill this and taps it and get a festo pipe out of it will it be good?? i have the egr removed and instead i have this. would it give an accurate reading?? thanks guys!! u r really helpful. gil
  13. can you explain to me where the inlet moneyfold is please? is it where the exhaust fits with the turbo? any pics please to show the exact point. thanks alot for your help. gil
  14. thanks guys!!! tomorrow morning i'll have a look and do it. thanks gil
  15. hi guys, can anyone pls tell me where to fit the pipe (engine side) of the boost gauge on a td5? is it like a tdi on the turbo moneyfold? thanks gil
  16. thats what i'm going to do!!!! thanks alot! i sent an email to porny at irb. awaiting his reply!! cheers mate gil
  17. i would like to do what ur advising anderzander but here in malta there is no one who do a non-flashable ecu (pre 2002) flashable...by replacing some internal chips!!! so i had to put a side that option. hope u understand!!! is it possible to send my 2000 ecu to uk and change the internal chip and get it remapped there and they send it back to me!? thanks! i appreciate all your help and advices anderzander!! gil
  18. crwoody...same as mine!!! same faults...exactly the same!!! at first i thought that i bought the wrong ecu as it gave me an autobox error!!! cannot understand this!!! how can a defender ecu gives an auto box error!!! if no defender came out with an autobox!!! i'm with this ecu for two days now so cannot really tell any running problems! but till now no problems at all except the coolant temp circuit and autobox fualts!!!! i know it runs ok even with the faults but i would like to clear them out!!! thanks
  19. no mine is NNN500020 NOT NNN500250!!!! i need to know pls how i can clear the coolant temp curcuit fault! let me rephrase the autobox thing.....it is showing that it has an autobox fault!!! if its a defender ecu it is supposed to be set on manual! right?
  20. hi guys! please help needed from ecu's experts just bought an ecu from ebay....it said it came out from a Defender 2004 td5! and that was what i wanted cos i have a 2000 TD5 and with that ecu i couldnt remap it to get more power cos the ecu is not programmable! The part number is NNN500020....1st question pls....is that really a defender ecu part number? cos when i connected it to the nanocom it said it is set with autobox ...and as far as i know no defender td5 came out with an autobox!! one of the faults that worried me was coolant temp circuit current!! the temp on the gauge reads super fine! cannot find y there is a fault with the coolant temp if it reads good! i got to know that if u put a remap of a discovery on a defender ecu probably the temp will read the other way round on the gauge...but that is not my case! couldnt find some other issue which explains the fault in the coolant temp.
  21. Bogmonster..i seem to have same problem, i always thought that it is a defect from factory of early td5s. mine is 2000. but its very irritating to be in traffic and the landy starts jerking...the car behing u thinks u dont know how to drive properly lol please...where is this switch...i think i have same problem as smokeydiesel has. mayb if i replace this switch all works fine jerkless gil
  22. of cors she doesnt work that much my td5 hehe i use it to go to work everyday and some offroad during the weekend and not every weekend!!! i do about 25000miles a yr. if i'm doing the estimation correctly lol!!! so you think i should give her 5/30 instead of 10/40? sorry but this grade thing i never understood!!! here we have short roads!!! i'm planning to come to UK next year overland and there i can test my landy on long roads hehe thanks gil
  23. i live in malta...quite warm weather...and in summer very hot...usually reaches the 38/40 degrees celcuis! do you know of any oil that is 10w-40 and A1\B1?? thanks gil
  24. i own a td5 as well but on a defender...i give her Silkolene XTR...is it good or?? i've been using this oil for the last two yrs now. gil
