  1. Ah. Interesting. .. it ticks a bit when starting from cold. But it goes. Assumed that was a lifter. Wax gonna replace cam etc before transplantation into my 90 anyway. Just ideally wanted to get it running right before I take it all apart. ..

    Thanks

  2. L reg 3.9.... runs smoothly at idle and if you increase the revs slowly, but if you blip the throttle it misses and sometimes backfires...

Have checked the tps and the voltage increases smoothly through out the movement, am thinking maf.... anyone care to agree??.....

    Ta

  3. Hi..... just bought an l reg 3.9.... hesitant a sometimes stalls on big throttle settings. Have been advised it could be the tps..... does anyone know if the 3.5 is the same part. As I think I have one on an old engine. ..

also. Is there a way of testing it??...

And any pointers to a diagnostic type site would be great.

    Thanks

  5. Hi. I have an '86 90 with a range rover v8 at the moment, I just bought a 200 era discovery for the engine, current engine is on carbs, but the 3.9 runs so well on injection I might just leave it... electric s are a slight concern, but I can get over that...

What do people do with regards to a fuel pump, I understand that the discovery pump is a high pressure one??.... can I transplant the discovery pump into a 90 tank??.....

Any other assistance would be appreciated.....

  6. The power supply will come from the cut-off on the front of the battery box, so the intention is to run a twin wire to each side of the truck, with a relay for dipped and main beam each side, so the earth might aswell go to the battery, it might be overkill having four relays, but at least that way i can fuse each side, and it keeps things seperate.............

  7. I had an su rebuilt by burlen for a 1929 Morris, the carb that came back didn;t even look like the same one, (it was) the way they refurb them is like nothing i could imagine, they are bead blasted, cleaned, polished, rebushed and every part that can be replaced is..... (apart from the needle on mine as they had no reference for it).....

Whatever they charge is good value, i would pay it again in an instant.... simply the rebushing element alone could render the carb useless unless done properly..........

  8. i have bought new connectors for the bulb end, and so have cut off the original, even with the three wires inches apart i still get a small current in the main beam when ono dipped....

Still gonna do the relay mod, but thinking i need to get a new switch otherwise the small current might switch main beam on when i don;t want it.........

  9. I am about to upgrade the wiring with relays on my headlights, however, when doing a quick check i found when on dipped that i have a small amount of current getting to the main beam wire.......... is this a sign of the dip switch being duff..????

I've taken the column shroud off and found that even at the multi plug there is current on the main beam wire even on dipped..... so whilst i suspected that i may have a melted loom somewhere, i now suspect the switch is at fault......

    Can someone confirm...??

    1986 90.....

  10. I have just today picked up an old 3.5.... range rover auto injection engine, had been stored for a few years apparently, didn't even bother hardly looking at it when I picked it up, got it home and stripped off all the bits I have no interest in, took a rocker cover off, and OMG!!.... I have never seen so much black carp in an engine, I wonder if the oil has ever been changed....

So the question is, what the shell do I do next..... Chuck it in for exchange somewhere, or strip and rebuild with a'kit' from somewhere like v8 tuner...

If I rebuild it, how do I get rid of the black slime??.....
