1996 300tdi 90
Im going to fit a rev counter - there is a small guage White wire on the alternator W connector - which I havent reconnected since fitting a new alternator, cos its a spade on the wire and a post on the alternator (lazy eh?!) and all works as it should - a rev couter works from pulses from the W connecteor so the cunning plan is to use the existing wire, but heres the drama, where does the other end of the white wire come out of the loom? Whats it for? The Haynes book of lies doesnt even show it..........It would be really helpful if it appeared behind the radio or the speedo housing. Anyone any ideas? If it comes to it Ill just run a new wire in through the bulkhead.....but it would be neat if the white wire reappeared somewhere usable..............
Cheers

My drivers side dipped beam went out yesterday, so when I got home from work, after stopping to get a new bulb, expecting the dip filament to have blown, the new bulb didnt sort it. Main beam worked so thet ruled out an earth problem, checked the fuse next and that was OK, Hmmmmmmmm!
After much cursing the problem, I removed the black plastic housing that the fuses push into and found that the spade terminal that the fuse pushes into had popped out of the back of the plastic holder. The fuse must have just been making enough contact previously to allow the light to work until it moved away enough to break the contact. The blade type fuses just push into 2 spade connectors that have a small tab that holds them in from the other (bulkhead) side of the housing. Bent the tab out a bit and pushed the spade back into the housing and job done.
Just thought I'd share this experience with you lot as it could save hours of frustrating fault finding. As a result of finding this, the the fag lighter also now works as its spade terminal had also popped out of the fuse holder...............

Just done mine today (OK I helped!!)
While you are in that far you may as well replace the clutch, clutch release bearing, spigot bearing and clutch fork, seems pointless not to considering the amount of work involved getting in there............

As luck would have it (or not!!) I have the wires are hanging out of the dash on mine and I made note of where each goes, you think YOU are a Knob? I took the switch panel out and broke the panel and the switch trying to get the switch out of the panel - orderd a new panel then broke the fag lighter socket trying to get that out of the old panel! DOH!!
Anyroaup here you go;
1 Black/ Green trace (Black insulator)
2 Red/Light Green trace (Red insulator)
3 Green (Green (ish) insulator)
?? Brown (White insulator)

Ive had loads of Land Rovers and would not have a steering guard - as you say they act like a plough in a rear end recovery and Ive also found they lift the front in deep mud losing front wheel grip - pointless IMHO - although I suppose they have pavement appeal in pose value..............sell it - I think the sumos are adequate.......read the ground ahead and fit a diffguard.

Is this the engine you mean? If so its bases on the 300tdi - soI guess if a 300tdi is already fitted then this sound be similar............

Why not source another mirror from something else and bolt it in place of the old one or alternatively buy a plastic (camping or similar) mirror or a bit of polished stainless steel and cut and shape then glue over your old one...........just a thought............

I have a Goldigger D1 winch bumper for sale if anyone is interested- about 9 months old never fitted with a winch, all bolts etc. Cost £260 for sale for £180 - located Isle of Wight. Goldigger appear to have stopped trading now, shame as its nicely made kit.

IIRC the door switches are the earth connection. The light is live and the door switches complete the circuit?

The wingtop scoop is supposed to increase airflow though the heater and push more air into the cab thus improving cab temperature - I had one on my 90 and it made no difference..............

I had a similar problem on my defender, on the wiper motor the wiring plugs into a white plastic housing, this needs to be replaced and will cure the problem. I'm guesing the Disco will use the same motor........

From experience Id go for PVC/Body fit, the dutch laced loops are OK if you go careful with em.
I cant think of a reason why the 07 stick wont fit a 300.............
