  4. I've just changed the gearbox on my 200tdi due to a whirring in third gear, tbh it was getting a bit loud (couldn't hear the stereo) and gear changing was a bit crunchy. Changed to a R380, much nicer shifting etc.

Sounds like you may have the same problem.

hi cheers for you help , much apprieciated. how easy is it to change to an r380 gearbox, and wots needed? bare in mind im on my own whilst doing this. also am i right in sayin its an r380 from a 300 tdi discovery?

    thanks again

  6. hi all. im building my td5 110 . im at a point to fit the brakes. iv been looking on microcat which has totally confused me. can anyone give me a diagram of how the brake setup should be on a defender 110 td5 without abs. its got vented front discs, and solid discs on the back. also when looking at microcat it shows whats called a valve brake on some pictures but not all. is this somthing mine will need??

    cheers

  7. hi all, now i have a td5 engine to go into my defender 110. iv chosen the td5 for a reason but need some ideas.

i want to heavily modify and tune this engine . iv been reading into performance diesel modifying and ive seen some people have put have put forged pistons , performance cams in etc. in reading this iv been wondering whether its possible to do this to the td5s. has anyone ever done this?

anybody know who could give me some ideas on where to go for these parts etc?

iv got the hybrid turbo and performance intercooler and turbo pipes . but wondered whether doing thing such as iiv explained the forged pistons and performance parts.

also is there any modifications i should do to the engine with me doing modifications. ill be rebuilding the engine anyway so any information anyone can advise it would be much apprieciated.

another question would be im having it as an auto . would the discovery td5 auto box cope with the power the engine would be putting out??

    thanks for your help everyone

  8. hi all probably going to sound like a stupid question to some butwhere does the earthing cable attach to on the starter motor on a discovery. and then where do i earth it to? cheers iv been looking at the wiring diagram for a discovery auto set up but it doesnt say where to earth it to or from?

    cheers all

    chris

  9. Looking on Microcat the starter motors are the same for TD5 Defender & Discovery, manual or auto,NAD 101240 new, NAD 101240E exchange.

Have you fitted the earth lead ?

    Steve

hi the earth lead has confused me a bit . when i look at a discovery 2 td5 wiring diagram theres an earth lead that goes from the starter motor to the same place as where the battery earth earths off to. but when you look at a defender td5 diagram there isnt one. you think maybe its worth putting one on to the starter motor like the discovery one maybe??

    thanks again

    chris

  10. Yes they do, you should also use new bolts when refitting.

    Steve

hi steve cheers for confirming. any ideas as to why the engine struggles to turn over now. iv put a range rover viscous transfer box on and a discovery 2 auto box. ever since puttin them on when iv come to start it for the first time the its like the engine is siezed which it isnt. iv litterally just rebuilt it and checked it everything works before fitting the gearboxes etc,.

also you wouldnt know if the discovery 2 td5 auto starter motors are different from the defender manual td5s would you?

    thanks again

    chris
