i run the 33"x12.50 machos on my tomcat road/off road grip is outstanding wear is acceptable no mud in rims and i tow all sorts of trailers from bike to 2ton exhbition with no probs i love them :)

  5. It could be the problem, as the kero is no where near as oily as diesel, so depending on the mix, the fuel pump might have been running dry, as there was not enough lubricity in the mix.

A few years back when I was working for a certain employer, we were able to use all the waste avtur that we drained from aircraft, some diesels ran perfectly on straight avtur (which is basically kero, with some additives), and on some it destroyed the fuel pump due to lack of lubrication, so the fix was to put and extra litre of so of oil in with the fuel to avoid the problem.

I think it was the land cruisers that did`nt like running on it straight.

the peugot/citron 1.9 turbo diesel will run quite happly on avtur with the ocasional tank of diesel also discos will put up with a couple of tank fulls over a period of time not that i know of coarse oh and avtur has no pigment in it so its not going to alert customs tee hee

  6. Personally, I know I'm heading for an SVA and a Q-plate and I couldn't care less. If there are problems of non-conformity I have no issue with bringing my 'creation' into line. The only issue which worries me slightly is insurance.

Are there many options of companies willing to insure Q-plated cars? Is it trickier if you have a more extreme set-up (bigger engine or whatever)?

People's experience of this would be interesting.

    Ta, Al.

i've built several cars now some Q plated some SVA'ed and some just VIC'ed. to be honest the "rules" have a lot of grey areas and are open to a lot of debate thus things can vairy a lot from place to place to make my point i built an ABS freestyle as did my brother mine was SVA'ed in taunton and passed my brothers which was identical bar colour failed at southampton so go figuer my tomcat on the other hand acording to the DVLA only needed a VIC which is a check carried out at your local DVLA office to see that what you tell them on paper is what you have on the road as for insurance just use a company that does kit cars as Q plates aren't a problem for them

    hope this helps mike

  7. mmmm Birdlip Hill screwed my temp completely had to stop and let the bubbling niose subside, fortunately I don' t think that the engine is damaged. May not have happened if Bearmach who had the only thermostat for a 300tdi in the show would have sold it to me, but they wouldnt as they said it was in a new engine and they might forget to replace it before it was sold.

Shame on you Bearmach I thought the landrover community was about helping each other out .

Last weekend we were replacing a gearbox on a 110 for someone who was on their way to croatia and you guys couldnt even sell me a thermostat - My next project starting this month will require an investment of about £10k i can tell you that you wont see a penny of it!

The readers of this forum - make what you will of this post.

i thought it was the britpart stand that had a new engine they clearly don't know how to build. ;)

come on si bring on the X-tie the absolute must have for every offroader :D

  8. Head just about stopped throbbing now!

Bloody good weekend - particularly hanging with the Shire club on Fri & Sat night. Met some good people - Rebecc....Sharon was funny!

Moglite was just awsome! The photos I've seen so far just do not give it credit. It is one of the most impressive machines I've seen yet and sets a high standard for anyone to follow. You can see the amount of thought that has gone in to the design & layout of EVERYTHING and the level of engineering & attention to detail is impressive. Hope it goes as good as it looks!

Got home a bit late - and very tired. SV managed 35mph up birdlip hill with trailer with no overheating (well done Alisport!) I'll think about unloading the Landy & trailer tomorrow - just too tired today.

Thanks all - particularly Chris for helping out on the stand.

    Si

rebecca says hi see she said you'd remember her name!!!! fantastic weekend lots of good comments about my tomcat, me well chuffed. :) as for birdlip i manged 30mph all the way up towing the shire shed and no over heating see will what you need is a tomcat tee hee. only down side some idiot beat my towing mirror off just after leaving hay ho :(

  9. u can grind a fair amount out of the props drive flange this can give u the same angle as on a disco 2 front prop (double cardon end) this i did on my tomcat but as mine was running at a steep angle it vibrated on over run and i ended up moding the hole lot to run disco 2 front prop
