  1. It's the petition one. Not an actual petition, more of a 'put your point forward' sort of thing. So I presume the ones that have the most comments etc will be most noticed by those in power.... And yes, the website has been overloaded all day, typical eh. Have not had a chance to see the historic tax one, but shall certainly be looking for it whenever the server becomes realistically useful.
  2. http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk/repealing-unnecessary-laws/nerc-legislation Clegg's new website is up, so this is potentially a chance for those in power to take notice of us.
  3. Could do mine on the way through, Les .... >_> SkintStudent no.2
  4. Wouldn't work with a 1985 defender wiper too I don't suppose?
  5. 4" of play would be an improvement on my current situation. The QE2 has better turning... And I shall email Ian (at Adwest) about this surcharge then. Would make it even more appealing to get an Adwest box.
  6. I've emailed the bloke there and he's given me a price of £265 [or thereabouts]. No mention of surcharge at all... I thought you just bought the box? And I live in Reading, so the saving in postage costs is another advantage. Not going anywhere near NPS. The woman on the 'phone is lovely, but the product is not. My first failed in a matter of weeks, so I got another. That hasn't lasted 18 months really, and I'm not at all willing to give them yet more money. 3 years problem free is sounding promising to me steve
  7. I know they're not cheap, but I'm fed up with my steering. Had the car nearly 4 years and it has never been up to standard, and I've changed pretty much everything there is to change. Had an NPS box in for about 2 years, and it's now useless, and also leaking. Doesn't seem to work at all <5mph.
  8. I've heard no end of bad stories about NPS' steering boxes [and had personal carp experience too.] Has anyone here got anything bad to say about a proper Adwest one? I figure it's better to buy one of these and hope it lasts rather than get a box from NPS every couple of years
  9. My rear section of exhaust worked itself off [good old rust!] a while back, and I ran it like that for a few days. The cab often ended up stinking of exhaust fumes, as did my lungs I imagine. I wouldn't recommend it too much
  10. Sorted. Similarly, is it possible to cheaply renew the door stay parts? Mine never really holds it open anymore. Might gas strut it in the future.
  11. Didn't think you'd be able to get such things these days.
  12. Western's advised me on another forum, that using the standard door that was designed for my car would be the best overall option, as it would require no extra cost, as long as it had some anti-corrosion treatment. My current door [circa 25 years old] shows very little warping as it is, so I'm inclined to go with this. The only question left is whether to purchase a new set of hinges.
  13. Just a few minor things then....... Back to step one I think. Cheers ralph.
  14. *bump* I'm getting a new door for my 1985 90, through insurance work. Someone on another forum suggested that I go for one of these doors, instead of getting the same type again [presuming the garage/insurance co. allow it]. The other option was a swing away wheel carrier, but I'd rather not spend money if I don't have to. What differences [physical, not electrical] are there between this and mine? Ideally I'd take the parts off of my old door and fit them onto the new door. It was suggested that the glass might be different?
  15. For a 1985 90. Seen a few defender ones, but none are the same as mine.
  16. I've got a smart veg system in mine and I use a muff in winter as otherwise it takes forever to heat up and end up using more diesel than I like. Just got to keep a good eye on the temp gauge, especially when it starts to warm up again in Feb or so.
  17. Don't use WD40, use plusgas, it's a freeing agent, not a lubricant, dose it in that several times and it should make life a bit easier
  18. That one certainly looks about right. Don't know how they can charge a fiver for it though.
  19. Had seen the lrseries ones, but there are so many I didn't know which to choose.
  20. Need a new grommet or two for the battery cables into the battery compartment, but need the number please.
  21. What about rear squirters? Mine's worse than a gnat's tiddle. Hardly reaches the glass let alone the centre of it.
  22. Had a good few sits in traffic jams yesterday and no smoke! Hurrah. Clearly that free clean did the trick [temporarily at least!]. So I guess the power issue is related to the turbo or something... It does seem to be kicking in later than usual
  23. Hope you're engine hasn't been gummed up because of that poor heating then! Had a decent drive today and got no smoke whatsoever. Not a thorough test as there weren't any major traffic jams, but I usually see the odd puff. Still think I'm going to get a proper Bosch place to service them and whack some new nozzles on though. Even if it's £200 I probably save that every few weeks/months.
  24. @james: correct with the ring gumming, though it shouldn't happen with a twin tank system. If I was just chucking it in the tank or mixing it, then I'd expect this. Interesting what you say about the cylinder temps, don't know masses about diesels. I also agree with the switching over if idle for a prolonged period, but still wouldn't expect 30secs to one minute to puff out smoke. @reb: the lift pump only pumps the veg oil, so I'm ruling that out at the minute. @jimmy: what I've read, from those who have been doing this for years, is that this smoking issue we experience often occurs when using injectors that have done more than 60k. He suggests a full service and new nozzles. When I had them checked at the weekend the bloke said they were fine. But perhaps it's worth a second opinion? Redex probably isn't a bad idea. Next time I'm passing Halfrauds...
