  2. hi all, getting rather fed up now,oil leak at first thought it was sump gasket by bellhousing, removed sump cleaned everything up,let oil drain out of engine over night without the sump tray being on, oil seeping down face of bellhousing not from drain plug hole thou, as changed rear crank oil seal earlier, cleaned oil off bellhousing again left for an hour or so, oil back again, the landy is facing down hill at this point so i would have thought the front of engine would be the lowest point, put new gasket back on and is still leaking, wondering is there a seal between engine block and belhousing that could be leaking, used torque 18nm on sump studs, any help on this would be gratfully received thanks wayne

  17. Hi, Just finished working on defender and found a hole in the bottom of the bellhousing. It looks as if there is a stud missing right at the bottom. The hole was full up with grease oil of some sort. When i scraped it out, Guess What, it was full of engine oil! Should this hole have a drain plug in? I Have a picture to show you what i mean Cheers, Wayne

  19. hi neil,i took sump tray off because it looked like gasket had gone put new one on topped up with oil , had a look a bit later on and oil seeping from back end of sump tray, took it off again cleaned everything up let it dry for abit another new gasket just incase , and before i put it back on i could see oil seeping from between back of engine & bell housing, there wasn't any oil in then, torque set as 18nm is that right , is there anyway i can check rear crank seal without taking gearbox out , i will check back of engine off work thurs & friday, i'm in build trade not very good at the moment, cheer's wayne
