  1. Thanks i will give it a look before i buy a sensor Hugh
  2. ..also be aware that for intermittent sensor fault codes in most cases the hub is the problem cos there's a play in the reliuctor ring not the sensor Great ...how would I check the hub before I go any further?
  3. Would this be a common view then? Go for the aftermarket one?
  4. Hi all I have ruin a diagnostic on my 3 amigo problem and I am informed that the rear wheel sensor had an intermittent fault in it. I went to get a new one to see there are a number of different ones. My LR dealer tells me that the original now comes with a long cable that I have to manually wire into the ECU. I can get an original wabco short one by mail order but I can also get an aftermarket one at a fraction of the cost. Has anyone tried the aftermarket ones and are they worth it or will I be back in a few months replacing again? All comments and suggestions are welcome Hugh
  5. Just went back to the car after dinner and all is well again..............im sure it will not last so i will take the advice Regards Hugh
  6. Any ideas? Hopefully something simple like in need of new pads....................but then again ....no!???? Hugh
  7. Ok Thanks That leads to the next question ...........will a defender one work in a disco?
  8. Are all TD5 steering pumps interchangeable? Hugh
  9. And yet another one I cant figure out. My 2003 TD5 clunks (rear axle area) on cornering. I can hear it and feel it. It only happens when I go into a steep corner. If it clunks on right hand corner it will not clunk again until I take a left one. In other words it seems to be moving from one side to the other. I have been told that the bushes in the Disco do not normally go and to be honest I can not see any loose or worn ones. I did replace the tie rods or drop arms from the Anti Roll bar but not improvement Any suggestions as to what it might be. Hugh
  10. Thanks for that..........the problem seems to have righted itself. No lights for past 2 days despite many starts and stops as well as TC coming on by times Fingers crossed Hugh
  11. Hi Guys Stopped the Disco in a hurry to turn a corner and all 3 lights came on. I cut the engine and restarted and only the ABS light remained on. I had to call to a friend and when I came back out about 30 minutes later I restarted the engine and the ABS was on but it went out when I moved a few yards. So far it has stayed off despite cornering and stopping. Any ideas what I might check to ensure it stays off permanently. Hugh
  12. Is there anything more to replacing the steering box on a TD5 other than unbolting one and bolting the other in its place? Hugh
  13. Where is the sender unit on the outside of the vehicle please and is it possible to replace it? Hugh
  14. Interesting question and I would be delighted to hear your experience if you go ahead with the conversion. I have been told that the existing head unit is fully amplified throughout the system and not possible to replace. Please prove that wrong as I would love to change my head unit to a more modern one Hugh
  15. I opted for the simple solution ...........replace the entire shaft.
  16. Hi all One of the UJ's on the double UJ on the front prop shaft is gone on my Disco TD5. Do i need to know anything special before i tackle its replacement. I also presume i need to replace both joints at the one time. While i am at it do anyone know the location of the outside temperature sensor. I am fairly sure mine is reading incorrectly. And can anyone tell me the size or measurement of the blocks used on the bump stops to re calibrate the suspension air bags Thats enough for now Hugh
  17. Hi Guys My drivers side rear air bag on my 03 Disco 2 exploded earlier today. I know it was as a result of the height sensor keeping it fully inflated rather than level. OK so i will replace the bag with a new one but my questions are do i need to replace both sides at once or can i get away with just the damaged one. I know i will have to replace the height sensor as well but will i have to have it calibrated or can i do that myself? Thanks Hugh
  18. Thanks for that. I will check it out and replace if needs be Hugh
  19. Hi all My 2003 Disco 2 has developed an annoying habit. Sometimes when i turn the key all i get is a click instead of a turnover. It has started when I persist every time to-date but i am worried it will someday let me down fully. Otherwise working perfectly All suggestions welcome By the way it has been very wet and i was wading (shallow) yesterday. Maybe something to do with water???? Thanks Hugh
  20. Ok good points............thanks Hugh
  21. Hi Guys I posted this before and got no replies but the problem seems to have developed a new turn lately. Hopefully it will jog some memories as I am sure I am not the only person to experience this 2003 TD5 Disco 2. Sometimes when I turn the key to start the vehicle it turns over constantly but will not start. Seems like the imobilsier has kicked in and prevents it starting. If I using the fob lock and unlock the doors it starts but occasionally with the 2 Flashing lights on the dash. In those cases I have just repeated the procedure until they car starts normally. It always has to date. However today when I tried to start the car all I got was a "Click" like the old fashioned sound when the starter was stuck. But on the second attempt it started perfectly. Later in the morning it did it again and and started on the 2nd attempt but with flashing dash lights . The above procedure did clear that fault though. We did have very bad weather yesterday in the form of rain and gales driving it but not sure if that would have had anything to do with it. All suggestions welcome Hugh
  22. What does a door latch assembly consist of then? I was thinking a actuator or connection thereto?
  23. Hi Guys On my 2003 Disco 2 TD5 the passenger door lock has suddenly stopped working correctly. It locks perfectly with the key fob and interior lock button but will not unlock. It does unlock and open from the inside handle. All other door work perfectly. Any time saving suggestions as to what I might look for would be very welcome. Hugh
  24. Thanks everybody............i am kind of glad i didnt try to cross.
  25. Hi Guys Recently I had occasion to cross a river in spate. The torrents of water coming down were quiet large and moving very rapidly. The water was 3 inches above my doors. The dept did not worry me at all but the speed of the current did. I chickened out on crossing it as i was worried that it might be too deep and carry me down river due to boyancy. I was lucky in so far as my frind was with me in a Defender and the water was only up to his doors so we crossed in that vehicle. Question is how deep would the water have to be before it would lift a Disco sufficiently to move it with a current? Thanks Hugh
