  1. Simple way to prevent it beeping is to tape the switch down using heavy duty duck tape. Works a treat Hugh
  2. Hi Guys Is there any secret or easy way to take a front door of a Disco 1 or is it just a case of get at it with brute strength and the right size tool. Hugh
  3. Rear sub (in door) has its own amp attached to it. I have my one working of the RCA output from my Sony head ...no problem and no modifications. The only criticism I would have of it is that it is not very tonal but it does give a good deep bass. Hugh
  4. And what is wrong with hanging it on the Transfer Box gear lever..........I thought that was what it was for when not in use off road Hugh
  5. Hi Guys I currently have Osram night breaker bulbs in my standard 98 Disco lights and 6 inch Ring driving lamps also using Osram bulbs. The light output is excellent and really lights up the road for about 50 to 60 yards but doesn't show as much of the road ahead as I would like. My qestion is what do you guys have and what sort of light performance are you getting. If i was to change my spotlights what would you recommend for distance and what benefit would I get from installing a light bar on the roof? Hugh
  6. i have done this job on 2 occasions. It is fiddly. One word of advice before you start. Map ever linkage and the angle of entry for the linkages. Especially the way it is locked in place. Trust me it will look completely different when it comes around to a rebuild. Personally I fond it helpful to photograph the original set up in detail before you dismantle. Good luck Hugh

Yes from experience I can tell you it is amazing just how much play you can get from worn panhard rod bushes ( and they dont even have to appear worn) Hugh
  8. Thanks very much but I am going to rely on the old fashioned method of pushing the brake and submerging the pipe in a jar with fluid in it. I find it the best way to remove and stubborn air in the system. Hugh
  9. Hi guys Thanks for the comments but is there no one out there that can tell me the sequence for bleeding the brakes? Hugh
  10. Yes the Servo is working just fine. to be honest the brakes are working and stopping the car but not as well as the brakes in my Ford Focus or Toyota Avensis ..........thats all Hugh
  11. hi all The brakes on my 1998 300Tdi are not as good as I think they should be. They stop the vehicle but seem a little lazy. I certainly wouldn't band my head off the windscreen but the ABS will kick in under heavy braking. The discs and pads are only about 9 months and not been used extensively in that time. I am not sure what may cause the lazy feeling but the first thing I am going to do is bleed the system and replace the fluid. Can anyone tell me the sequence for bleeding them please. After that I was thinking of replacing the brake hoses with steel braided ones. Any other sugestions? Hugh
  12. Hi Can anyone tell me the inside diameter of the fuel lines. They appear to be about 9.5mm outside so I am guessing they are 6mm inside. Anyone know for definite? Thanks Hugh
  13. Thanks for the assistance. I didn't know this forum existed or I would have posted here to start with. hugh
  14. Hi Guys Can anyone tell me the part number for the fuel line from the sedimentor to the injector pump on 98 Disco with a 300tdi engine. Apart from that the best description I can give is that it is the long fuel line made of hard black plastic that has a nut at the end that attaches to the banjo nut assembly on the injector pump by way of compression joint. My main dealer can not find the number on their system despite being able to see the line I need, Where I might get the line would be helpful as well. Alternatively if you know the internal diameter of the line I may well be able to purchase a rubber tube of similar and attach it using a jubilee clip on both ends. If anyone has replaced this fuel line maybe you might let me know if there is anything I need to know before i start. I presume the sedimentor is constantly full and I will need to put up with diesel spewing out while I replace the line Thanks Hugh
  15. Hi Guys I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to replace the lights in the window switches in the centre console of my Dissco 300 tdi (98). I can not see how to get at the bulbs in them to replace them. Do i need to take them apart to do the work? Thanks Hugh
  16. It happens all the time on my Disco as well. I know it is the sensor moving in the wheel. I also know (I think) that i will cure it when the weather gets better by gluing it in place (silicone) Hugh
  17. Hi Guys My rear door is a little off liine and not closing as easily as it used to. I think the reason is wear in the hinges. Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the pins in them or should I replace the hinges themselves? Hugh
  18. I know you have probably all seen this before but I just though it is a good way to start the new year..........Oh the promise of things to come The Book of The Dammed Its not the fault of the writers, they wrote the book in a nice warm workshop while using a brand new car for the example. If however, they were subject to what the rest of us have to put up with, ie. a windswept driveway at 2pm on a Sunday with an ominious dark cloud on the horizon, while working on a vehicle that has an odometer showing mileage halfway to the moon, then perhaps it may have been written a little differently... Manual: Rotate anticlockwise. Translation: Clamp with molegrips then beat repeatedly with hammer anticlockwise. Manual: This is a snug fit. Translation: You will skin your knuckles! Manual: This is a tight fit. Translation: Not a hope in hell, matey! Manual: As described in Chapter 7... Translation: That'll teach you not to read through before you start, now you are looking at scarey photos of the inside of a gearbox. Manual: Pry... Translation: Hammer a screwdriver into... Manual: Undo... Translation: Go buy a tin of WD40 (catering size). Manual: Retain tiny spring... Translation: "Jeez what was that, it nearly had my eye out"! Manual: Press and rotate to remove bulb... Translation: OK - thats the glass bit off, now fetch some good pliers to dig out the bayonet part. Manual: Lightly... Translation: Start off lightly and build up till the veins on your forehead are throbbing then re-check the manual because what you are doing now cannot in any way be considered "lightly". Manual: Weekly checks... Translation: If it isn't broken don't fix it! Manual: Routine maintenance... Translation: If it isn't broken... it's about to be! Manual: One Spanner rating. Translation: Your Mum could do this... so how did you manage to botch it up? Manual: Two Spanner rating. Translation: Now you may think that you can do this because two is a low, tiny, ikkle number... but you also thought that the wiring diagram was a map of the Tokyo underground (in fact that would have been more use to you). Manual: Three Spanner rating. Translation: You may have to consider resorting to Satanism for help with this job Manual: Four Spanner rating. Translation: You are seriously considering this aren't you, you pleb! Manual: Five Spanner rating. Translation: OK - but don't expect us to ride it afterwards!!! Manual: If not, you can fabricate your own special tool like this.. Translation: Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Manual: Compress... Translation: Squeeze with all your might, jump up and down on, swear at, throw at the garage wall, then search for it in the dark corner of the garage whilst muttering "bugger" repeatedly under your breath. Manual: Inspect... Translation: Squint at really hard and pretend you know what you are looking at, then declare in a loud knowing voice to your wife "Yep, as I thought, it's going to need a new one"! Manual: Carefully... Translation: You are about to cut yourself! Manual: Retaining nut... Translation: Yes, that's it, that big spherical blob of rust. Manual: Get an assistant... Translation: Prepare to humiliate yourself in front of someone you know. Manual: Turning the engine will be easier with the spark pugs removed. Translation: However, starting the engine afterwards will be much harder. Once that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach has subsided, you can start to feel deeply ashamed as you gingerly refit the spark plugs. Manual: Refitting is the reverse sequence to removal. Translation: But you swear in different places. Manual: Prise away plastic locating pegs... Translation: Snap off... Manual: Using a suitable drift.. Translation: The biggest nail in your tool box isn't a suitable drift! Manual: Everyday toolkit Translation: Ensure you have an RAC Card & Mobile Phone Manual: Apply moderate heat... Translation: Holding a lighted match under it isn't moderate heat. Manual: Index Translation: List of all the things in the book bar the thing you actually want!
  19. Yeaaaaa thats a plus 1 to all previous posts.............THANK YOU MR LAND ROVER.........the King of the snow Have a great Christmas and an even better new year Hugh
  20. Hi Before I begin I have to say I have not done this as yet so it may not work. However having said that I have been experiencing the same problems here with the freezing weather and having checked I have determined that the problem is the jets themselves icing up. I intend to extend the tubing used to deliver the screen wash and wind it around the large water pipe to the radiator. The radiator pipe will heats the liquid in order to deliver a heated screen wash. What I can not say is if it will unclog the frozen jets described above. I will try it over the Christmas holidays so I will let you know if it works during the next freeze up Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and a better New Year Hugh
  21. I would think it is the spring in the lock itself. It goes regularly enough to be a known problem. Easy to buy and replace. A little info is available here http://www.wizardbilt.com/ A word of advice though before you start is to take copious notes on the linkages to assist in the rebuild. It might look easy but trust me when you start on the rebuild you will wonder what way the linkages went initially. Hugh
  22. Hi I just replaced the UJ in on my front prop shaft on my Discovery 1. I noticed the sliding portion of the propshaft was at the diff end when I took it off but as far as I can remember it should be at tht transfer box end. Am I correct or does it make any difference to the vehicle? Hugh
  23. I reversed into a bush and came away without my left hand light guard. Problem is I cant find the bush never mind the light guard. Anyone got any ideas where I can get a single one of these? Hugh
