  1. Ok folks my front winch rope has now done 11 competitions and I think it might be time to retire it as my next will be winching up the very steep hills at Crumps farm in 2 and a bit weeks time on the Challenger event. Yes I know I have just done this site on the tail end challenge but now it makes me shudder thinking about what would have happened had a rope snapped. I need 38m (or 125 feet ) of 12mm rope for my front twin motor 8274 , any reccomendations on type and supplier would be welcome as money is tight at the moment.

  2. Well done to all involved in a very slick running event especially Mr Nick who did a superb job organising a lot of it.

Had a great time despite a few lost hours on Sat with breakages . Well dome to all the trophy winners in all the classes (we narrowly missed out on one ourselves). A big thank you to Ade my co-driver who ran hard all day Sat and Sun despite his bad hand and knee from his death defying quad bike accident on Wed.

  3. Great Day a big thanks to Adee my co driver for running so hard today and diving like a mad man through all the thorns and nettles ! It was good to nearly clear up (1 punch missed) after our recent mechanical problems on the last few events. A big thank you to Paul Bass for the supply of a steering box pipe which otherwise would have ended our day at lunch time. Home safe and sound with "just" a snapped exhaust on the Coach (we still had a least 6 inches of exhaust after the turbo , the rest held off the road by a ratchet strap !!)

  4. I use a piece of freeware called "tyre" we use google maps to plot a set of waypoints and then import it as an itinery into my tom tom very handy to set your tom tom route when you are driving an 18 ton 56 foot long outfit !! You can just click on the entrance gate to the site and it's used as the last waypoint

  5. I would like to add another benefit of auto in a challenge truck and that is your £250 + winch ropes will last much longer , I am sure we have all seen the manual trucks lurch forward when coming off the clutch , the winch rope goes slack , the truck stops due to lack of traction and SNAP the winch rope gets a massive shock load as the winch catches up. I dont clean or swap round my winch ropes (yes I know I should) and my front rope has now done 9 competitions without snapping

  6. the Bus idea is the best of both worlds for us BUT as its a 17 tonner I have Hgv2 to drive it and HGV 1 to drive it and tow a 3.5 ton trailer behind....these cost me £1000 per test (inc tutition) with 1st time passes so not cheap

  7. I think Zardos is right (and not because he's my brother !!) Tixover is small ,the lake with its grinding paste water will wreck you car , no out of the way camping area, sheer drops into the lake on 3 sides , nothing bigger than a 2 inch stick within 200 yards out the back to winch off. As you can see I HATE the place. Yarwell on the other hand is a sandy type site with much better and varied terrain , a better camping area and while not as big as slindon is I am sure larger than Tixover.....Zardos time for a Tixover / Yarwell overlay
