  1. sorry for late reply, had issues with broad band. To update, swapped the pump out but it refused to fire. rotated it 360 degrees and still woulnt fire. i refitted the old pump and it started straight away. ive been advised to use easy start to try get the none working pump going. Any thoughts? ive heard its bad for deisel engines Also, reason i wanted to change the injection pump was because the previous owner said that a garage had discovered swarf/ metal filings in the soloinoid. How bad/ what consiquences would this have on the engine if i kept driving it? cheers Dan
  2. trying to get my head round fitting a used injector pump as a replacement for my knackered one. I know the tdc mark on the fly wheel will make 1 revolution compared to 2 for the cam and pump. Could anyone tell me if its possible to fit a second hand injector pump 360 degrees off the tdc? and if so how do i know if its right? hope i made sense, this will be my first attempt messing with timing cheers Dan
  3. I want to swap my 200tdi front axle for a 300 disco because both the diff and cvs have had it. I've read it is a pretty straight forward swap but what I've noticed is how close the narrow radius arms to the chassis rails on mine. Would fitting the wider arms off the disco not foul on the chassis?
  4. problem sorted, it was the solenoid but only just remembered that when i was messing about with it i forgot to disconnect the battery and when i connected it, it sparked. checked the fuses again and sure enough found the culpret. All this over a 10A fuse. thanks for everyone imput
  5. Thanks for everyone's help. Not going to have the time to investigate anymore until after Xmas now. As soon as ive had a good root around I'll post my findings. No doubt I'll needed more help Cheers guys
  6. Bit of progress today. Changed the solenoid and hot wired it and the engine started. Defiantly an electrical issue but still none the wiser. Any electrical wizards got any ideas. Gonna start pullin the loom apart tomorrow. Still got no power to pump or glow plugs
  7. Just tried starting it again with a direct cable from solenod to battery still wouldn't start. This time noticed that if I shook the cable to the battery the glow plug light would go on and off. If I left the cable connected the glow plug light would stay off. Any ideas? Will have to wait till tomorrow to remove the solenoid.
  8. Right Pretty sure its the immobiliser.Just checked if there is power to the fuel solenoid and there's not. It's a 3 pin but 2 of the wires have been pulled out by previous owner by the look of it. One of the loose cables is showing 10v but the one connected to the solenoid has no power. Still can't find the ecu. Any ideas how to fix it when I find it?
  9. I'm going to remove and clean connections this evening. When I wired it direct to battery it was clicking so presume its working. Not to sure as to whether it is ecu or edc?? a bit confused about the whole immobiliser location Will take a photo tonight Would the glow plug light not coming on be linked to the fuel solenoid? Cheers Dan
  10. Alright guys, hopeful someone might be able to shed some light on why my 98 disco won't start Was driving fine then the engine cut out and wouldn't restart The ow plug light won't come on now and fuel doesn't seem to be getting past the stop solenoid I ran a cable to the battery and the glow plug light came on but still wouldn't start The engine turns over fine but doesn't seam to be getting fuel I've pulled the dash apart to fit a spider bypass only to discover there wasn't one Any ideas? The engine overheated about 3hrs before it died but drove fine once cooled and topped up so I don't think it is related Any help greatly appreciated Cheers dan
  11. cheers mate, will have a measure up tomorrow
  12. cheers, thats exactly what i needed to know. do you know if the rear quarter windows are the same size? dont mind fiddling with new mounts and brackets but was after a factory lookng finish (if possible) if it is going to involve cutting and peicing it back together i will probly end up making some out of chequer plate instead
  13. alright guys, i want to fit d2 storage bins in my 300tdi. any ideas if its possible? cheers, Dan
  14. cheers Disco, just finished reading your link. A+ Bit of information overload but i think i understood. Might have to read it a couple more times before tacking it. The prevoius owner had it tuned and has some sort of a valve fitted to the side of the intake manifold, any ideas what its for (im guessing boost) sorry for bad picks but its a bit dark outside cheers, Dan
  15. cheers jai, great info. fitting big tyres appears to open a big can of worms. glad i should be able to sort it without messing around with diff diff ratios
  16. scatt, what sort of motorway speed can it cruise at?
  17. cheers scat, sounds good. gonna check out prices on tinternet for good used box
  18. cheers jai, think im going to try flushing my intercooler to see if that makes it any better. Its amazing how much difference there is between disco and defender
  19. cheers 19mart82, it is a 300tdi already turned the fuel pump up (to the point it chucks out black smoke under load) also fitted an allisport uprated intercooler but still feels like it wants to stall when pull away from stationary. i had a 110 with the same setup and its acceleration/ power was really good any idea what ratio diffs i would need to have a happy medium between acceleration and motorway speeds? cheers
  20. alright guys, since fitting 33" tyres to my disco is suffering with bad acceleration. Does anyone know if changing the diffs for defender 90 would help sort out the gearing. (if they fit?) i was hoping i could do it on the cheap buy buying second hand from ebay rather than new ones from Ascrofts Any advice would be helpful, ratios etc Cheers Dan
  21. im no expert on the subject, but ive just fitted the terrafirma one and am very happy with it. it took me a couple of attempts to get it centered but now it is steering feels tight hope this helps
  22. cheers nigel, i didnt know what the difference between the oils were. think i might have been mis guided with 15w/40 . the issue i have is when the engine is up to tempurature, when cold, on start up the light goes straight out. will change the sender, and if it is still happening, it will be purchasing some 10w/50 i have been checking out pressure guages on tinternet, dont like the price, but might have to be done
  23. cheers nigel, ill pick up a new switch and try it tomorrow. i was told to use 15w/40 due to millage being 167,000 will do mo, i did have a drip from the sump but i was alarmed when i checked the level after only a couple of months cheers mutz, had read that it could relate to bottom end trouble, but really hoping it isnt! sounds way to complicated for me, if that is the case, will be looking at getting a good secondhand engine rather than fix it. the idea of tackling the head gasket was duanting enough
  24. cheer tanuki, might sound like a stupid question, but how can you tell if the cap is working? im pretty new to this mechanics lark
