  3. cheers for all the info guys, the disco option sounds like a good idea but funds are short and the guy who sold me the landy gave me a box of spares which includes a new ball joint. would i need to remove the drop arm to change the ball joint or could i do it in situ?
  4. cheers dave, the rubber is split so im going to change it. how difficult is it to remove from the drop arm? or would a disco one be less hassle?
  5. dunno, only checked forwards and back, didn't try pulling it. will have another look tomorrow, thanks
  6. it doesn't move much left and right but forwards and backwards it is very easy to move. is it a big job to change them?
  7. alright, sorry for late reply. cheeked the drop arm, seems fine, but the ball joint has a lot of movement forwards and backwards. how much play is normal? ive moved it forward and backwards to show the play in photos
  8. cheers, will check the drop arm. the noise definatly isnt normal, i changed the pas pump 6 months ago but the noise i heard this morning is new, sounded like it was really straining even though i wasnt trying to steer excessively. any other ideas???
  9. alright guys, my steering has been feeling very vague and loose recently, and this morning wilst reversing round a corner on full lock i hear a very strange noise coming from around the pas box. any ideas of what to check before replacing it, cheers dan
  10. cheers for the info, definatly gonna stick with a defender box
  11. alright guys i need a new gearbox but cant afford a recon unit. am thinking to tackle it myself but have very limited experience! have heard that u can fit disco boxs by swapping some parts over. how difficult is it to do? any pics/ diagrams would be very useful cheers
  12. thanks guys, didnt fancy taking engine out. girl friends brother is gona lend me a crane so think im gonna drop both boxes out the bottom, got to get onto ashcrofts now
  13. hello people, my gearbox is well on the way out and was wondering the easiest way to swap it. the hayes manual says to remove the engine but surely its easier to drop the box out the bottom? closest ive come to a gearbox is bleeding the clutch so advice would be appresiated cheers Dan
  14. thanks for everyones imput, managed to remove it by hamering on a smaller socket. well chuffed, thanks luke. now its bleed i have fully functioning brakes!
  15. thanks agin luke, the nipple is fine but the nut shered off around it. filing it down sounds like that might work, will give it a go tomorrow,
  16. cheers luke, goona pick up a new nipple tomorrow, but how am i going to remove the damaged one? ive tryed every size spanner and socket to loosen it but no luck
  17. i decided to bleed the brakes on my 300tdi this evening, all was going smooth until i was on the last corner and discovered the bolt part of the bleed screw was shered off no ive got no way of undoing it to bleed it! any ideas guys???
  18. cheers for the feedback guy, im a complete newb, never even touched a welder before so gateful for all input. have been looking a 2nd hand ones on tintranet but dont like the gamble. found a welding suppliers up the road so gonna try there on saturday. is it gas or gasless that is alright to weld outside?
  19. im looking at getting a welder so that i can replace my rear crossmember on my 110. on a really tight budget and wont be using it all that often. what amp gas mig would anyone recomment. been looking at clarke 150a mig for around £300
  20. cheers fekete, thats what i was hoping to hear, did u have to fit extended wheel arches? or adjust the steering stops?
  21. cheers red, bump stops shouldnt be an issue coz the springs r so stiff that my 110 would roll before bottoming out! off roading is at the moment is like being a pinball. think i get the wheels, if theres issues will just have to wait til next month to fit them {when i can afford the lift}
  22. my 110 has heavy duty springs (standard high, i think) but the fact that it is never heavily ladened it appears to sit about an inch higher than standard. i do intend getting medium weight spings with a two inch lift but would my current setup do for the mean time???
  23. cheers mo, definatly goona sort the clutch as well, ill add it to my never ending to-do list.the joy of buying a neglected land rover
  24. cheers mate, ill give it a go, gonna be cheaper than a new gearbox
