  1. cheers graham, think you're right. i replaced the hose today and bleed the system, ran the engine with the cap off and no sign of blowing. i also removed the fan to check around the head and found no evidence of leaks (other than rocker cover) so fingers crossed it was just a duff hose! with regards oil pressure, the oil light has only been doing its flicking thing once since the oil change, and ive now discovered that the sump was dripping. it has been about 2 months since checking the oil was on max and it had dopped to about 1/3 the distance between min and max. any ideas how low the oil needs to be before the warning light comes on? also, how big a job was the cam bearing?
  2. the cap is a new one (changed the same time as the hose) but i wasn't able to see if it still leaked before the hose came in half. the reason for changing it in the first place was it was scuffed quite badly by the fan and started leaking (the fan shroud isnt fitted) i got a glimmer of hope that it is just a faltly hose because i returned it today and got a new one, the guy said im not the first one hes seen it happen to (im the thrid). im going to fit it and run the engine without the fan so i can check for blowing around gasket other issue i had, might be related, is the oil warning light sometimes comes on when engine is up to temerature, but only on idle. i have changed oil which seemed to sort that but came on again the day before the hose blew
  3. thanks litch, the cap was a standard cap but it doesnt seam to fit to the alli tank as well as it would to the standard plastic. what would you recommend checking? all i can think is head gasket!
  4. i think my cooling system is holding to much pressure. the hose pictured started with a small leak from the plastic middle piece before shearing of. the engine was barly upto normal temperature when it happend! the part that separated was brand new (only done about 100miles) At the same time i replaced the hose i also fitted a new cap to my allisport header tank because it was leaking coolent through it. my concern is the fit of the cap on the thread of the header tank because the new one still leaked, so i tightened it as hard as i could by hand, and then this happened! any ideas guys???
  5. quite possibly, it had the same thread and looked identical apart from different colour bands round the bit the sender cable plugs into. oh well, just glad its sorted.
  6. not to worry guys. its all sorted. it turns out there are 2 different senders for the 300tdi. fitted the right one and now i have a reading on the guage
  7. alright guys, im having trouble with getting my disco to read anything other than cold on the guage so far i have: replaced sender and earthed it (temperature guage went straight to hot) renewed the coolant and flushed the system fitted new thermostate i seem to have bleed all the air out because heaters in cab are really hot and all the hoses feel hot and full of water , but the guage still wont regester anything other than cold(off the scale) any ideas guys?
  8. cheers bishbosh, was cheaking out prices for the 3 degrees, 2nd hand standard arms definatly seems the best/cheapest route Dan
  9. cheers for the reponse guys sorry, should have been clearer about the spacers. Mark guessed right, they are under the springs going to look at getting some 3degree arms before i take the spacers out. dont want to be putting any unneccecery strain on my drive chain. the size of the tyres are bad enough Dan
  10. i need some adive on radius arms and trailing arms. have already asked on the disco forum but havent had any rely so thought id see if you guys can help i have recently bought a disco with a 4" lift. +2" springs and 2" spacers fitted. i want to remove the spacers and just have a +2" lift but the radius arms are qt6(suitable for 3 to 6" lift i beleive) would they be alright with just a +2" or would it throw out my angles and create problems??? forgot to mention double carden prop fitted and double cranked trailing arms at rear any advice helpful, is dangerously unstable at speed (+50mph) cheers Dan
  11. hello fellow disco owners, i have recently mad the swap from defender to disco, and have bought one with a 4" lift. +2" springs and 2" spacers fitted. i want to remove the spacers and just have a +2" lift but the radius arms are qt6(suitable for 3 to 6" lift i beleive) would they be alright with just a +2" or would it throw out my angles and create problems??? forgot to mention double carden prop fitted and double cranked trailing arms at rear cheers Dan
  12. f**king low emission b***tards

  13. yeah, 33/12.5/15 but the same tyres were fitted to my 11o 300tdi and that pulls off like a rocket. forgot to mention both are fitted with alli intercooler and fueling has been tweeked. thought the problem might lie with the clutch
  14. i have recently bought a 300tdi disco which runs well apart from the fact it feels like it wants to stall when setting off in first gear. it needs to be reved to around 2000rpm to set of smoothly. any ideas??? im going to bleed the clutch on the weekend and see if it makes a difference, or would i be wasting my time? any imput appreasiated, cheers
  15. cheers tony, you didnt take any pictures of the bracket you fabricated did you?
  16. cheers tony, it is full width. did the hoses still line up or would i need to buy some new ones?
  17. nice try smego i payed out nearly £500 so was hoping not to have to fork out again. bloody transport for london, with there low emmisions!!
  18. i will soon be swapping my 300tdi 110 for a 300tdi disco, however ive put a fair bit of money into my defender and would really like to take my nice shiney alli intercooler and silcone hoses off the defender and fit to a disco. is this possible?? cheers Dan
  19. cheers guys, glad u cleared that up. will be getting a new gearbox fitted in a couple of weeks so will get the linkage put right then. thanks for everyones imput
  20. forgot to click attach. special moment
  21. sorry for poor pic, will get a better one tomorrow if need be. couldnt find a torch and its pitch black. the high/low leaver is in the forwards possition but is in high gear instead of low?! would have thought that if it was a disco gearbox then the gearstick would be behind the high/low stick
  22. cheers simonb, its definatly back to front, high is towards bulkhead and low is towards seatbox. the guy who sold the landy to me told me it was round the wrong way but he didnt know why!
  23. alright guys, bit of a weird one, i drive a 110 300tdi and the high/ low gear stick is round the wrong way! both gears work fine but just confussed as to why they work oppersite to what the lever says (high is low and low is high), any ideas??
