It was rear prop , changed now perfect , horrible when its your own vehicle !!
-
just changed a viscous on a bmw because of lock up and blade failure . Only vehicle i see standard with an EGT sensor is the scooby WRX ,, and some newer diesels ,, never thought about fitting one to my defender , I suppose a rich mixture would show up as extra heat in the exhaust !! opposite to a petrols lean mixture

bit like the spare wheel and the plod, it's not law to have a spare wheel. In fact a lot of new cars don't have one.....at all. But if you do carry one it has to be road legal i.e have enough tread and be serviceable. Carrying a bald spare will cost you 3 points and or £1000 fine?
BTW do under car green neons, illuminated washer jets, blue interior lighting and strobing red led bumper strips count as sidelighting? :-0
Pete.
In blackwood on a thursday (cruise) night , you are required to have undercar lights, blue sidelights , loud exhaust and a 2000 watt stereo ,,,,
believe me you should see the chav chariots

This lists the entire lighting guidelines I go by when testing a vehicle , havent checked reversing lamps for years , actually they.ve even stopped us tapping lights to ensure they still work. Watch out from next March airbag lights, tow sockets and a load of new stuff such as TRE gaiters, ball joint gaiters will be a failable item

seen valeo in their kits and I think a HD one was LUK ,, I think GBMUD's post was about right, some oem , some OK other stuff EEK !!
-
I got a spare one here , BUT its got a broken solenoid casing . You are welcome to use it to make one good one out of two ,,,
-
Dont panic about the reversing lights , not part of the test . Check the fuse contacts as well as the fuses , get alot of corroded fuseboxes

On my 90 I use schutz on wheel arches for its abrasion resistance, waxoyl thinned down inside chassis etc , and hammerite undercoat and paint on everything. My local factors discounts the 1l schutz refils to £4.20 inc Vat when you buy a case of 6. My last discovery used around 4L of schutz to pretty much cover all underside ready for winter. I usually thin the schutz down a little with thinners to ensure an easy spray.

I'll try disconnecting props and driving it , used to hearing noisy diffs but never had a graunchy metal on metal sound before ,, this has dismayed me a little. If it makes any difference the landy was parked up for a year after build while I sorted out a scoobie project ?
-
First thing I checked was box oils etc . I was scared a bit of sabotage had happenned as landy was parked in garage.

I did this conversion on mine , 300 tdi disco axles, disco front radius arms and new polybushes to fit. And did the rear propshaft conversion with help from foundry 4x4 ( they reccomended a high tensile bolt, spacer and big washer to pull out the center piece. ) actually they even offered to do it for me !!

Ive just finished my defender (92 K 200tdi ), taxed it and actually used it on road ,,, Perfect until I got into 4th to 5th . It then decided to start making what I would call a graunching noise when lifting off and then re accelerating. It is inly present above 35 ish. It also happenned when I went over a few bumps in road. Sometimes on overrun it makes the noise until i accelerate or brake.
The defender was rebuilt with recon gearbox, new input gear gear in transfer box (might be a little tight as i fitted it and wasn't 100% happy with it) , disco axles, new front prop (standard) and has slight wear in rear prop. It is lifted 2 inches and I was concerned about the standard props. With it being my own landy I'm finding it hard to be objective over what it might be. Any help would be appreciated , I'm suspecting either propshaft or transfer box ,,,

I think ralph is right with the panhard rod bushes . Usually find it makes them nervous to drive. usually the front radius arm bushes push the arm over to one side if gone. Just lever with a thin bar and they wont center back when detatched.

Forgot to say ,, that is as long as battery is good , if its cranking over to slow itll never start

once they are primed they usually cough into life very fast. Not really had to tow any 300s into starting usually prime up , open injector for for few secs and they are there. We just had a pump back from engineers which had got water in it and it wasn`t nice. It had bent some cam in it. Best of luck with yours , ours was a second hand pump off the bay of evil , running A1 now. How much of a squirt is coming out of injector if you crack it slightly ?? Check a good engine to gauge it , its easier if you are not used to diesels.
-
Its not that bad to do , easier than most modern front wheel drive cars now , is it oil contamination on plate ?? or just worn plate. I can give you an auto data quote tomorrow if you want (its what most garages use) and just multiply by their hourly rate , varies from £40 to £80 / hour round here ,,

Think this is probably linked to the dim dip system which partially lights headlights , have seen it play havoc on other cars etc either switching lights on permanently or no lights !! , don`t know (ralph probably does) but td5 might pulse earth instead of live to hlights for this system,
-
Try running it off a fuel can straight to the pump , it`ll then discount system and check pump,

Well if you have nothing to do for a few days you could try restoring http://www.ebay.co.u...215817130066531
Couple of local companies build complete shells or restore shells around me , big buck in it. Shells can be 10K apparently. I think you are basically buying the v5 as a right to build an historic rally car !!.

still the original flexi hose ??
maybe it's finally given up through old age.
cripes I think its done well !!!! I fail 5 years old cars with perished flexi hoses !!! seen a few leak at ends where ferrule has rusted
-
I`ve seen this before when slightly different threaded flexi fitted by guy , it leaked obviously, a little at first and alot when finally threads give way
-
wouldn`t come up in an mot ,,, might be an issue for a traffic cop (usually is) surprised as most rally/hill climb cars I mot have glass fibre panels. One team I do wiring looms for use carbon fibre bonnets, doors, boot and wings !!!!
-
quite right , had alot of problems with them as well , there are others though ,,,
-
that would be much better as usually breakers are a complete ripoff (trust me I used to work for one) some parts were cheaper from dealer !!
Can I spray standard wheel arches? does it work?
