  1. Gotta question that's bugging me a bit. I did my sills by cutting halfway up the inner and outer to good metal... Outside a doddle, inside had to get under and weld upwards which was a f**ker to do.... I've seen people thou cutting 6 inch of the floor away so they can basically weld downhand all the time....can you weld onto the top of the box rather than the side of the box?....is this method better to do...even thou there's more welding, mostly its from above.. Just interested to hear other views.. Rich
  2. Or goto one of them places such as "reclaim4me" and get them to do the donkey work... Sounds to me like you was miss sold an insurance policy which is right up their alley....it ain't just banking stuff they do..... Rich
  3. Mate, I got a replacement anyway...the thred had gone inside cos I dremmeled the bstard out...along the split...the other one...I had to do on the steering damper came out nice as pie....no heat...as old as the front one.... Gonna replace the lot thru next few months... She'll pass mot tommorow so 'chicken dinner' as we say in these parts... And, I painted the new front bar red so it looks good....I don't off-road mine....I care to much...lol Rich
  4. Hey western....can you order from here or is it just for p/n advice...the info looks good but the site is in Russian.... Rich
  5. I can't remember but I think mine were something like a coachbolt through the front floorpan. Mate, beware of what you do as it (job in question) could snowball lol.... The floorpans are notorious for coroding inside the seem sealant where it appears ok from first sight... If the brackets are this bad....be prepared for some nasty surprises.... And its a slightly bigger ballache job at front...door carpet rail gotta be unscrewed to peel carpet back....3 bolts through the floor pan...I would cut em...with minimum whacking... I replaced my floors anyway here but I was doing repairwork.... Be ready for wet carpets ...another shock find... Rich
  6. Well I think it looks v tidy... Job in the town....as they say... Rich
  7. Yes I did..no probs now guys...a new mate local came through with the part of a breaker....so...spent most of today out and about salvaging what's left of the hols... Cheers Rich
  8. Hi It's a long shot but has anyone here got this available in midlands area... For tdi300.. its the shorter one with link on both ends...I've got links but my tube is inserviceable... Any help id be gratefully... Let me know price if so... Thanks Rich
  9. Well I'm gutted...8 hours on it and can't shift it ..and its chewed up the pipe.... Bang goes the day trip to sea side tommorow... I wouldn't ave wanted to drive it as it was anyway....the worst thing is its the 800mm or so front pipe with ball joints both ends which I have new.. I could of brought the tube today for 25 quid and a short trip to cov... A new day tommorow and ill re-evaluate...
  10. Sounds bad to me....it shouldn't just start playing up without a problem.. I would suspect the hg .... It's similar symptoms of an airlock but how would it get one initially...or loose coolant...
  11. Thanks for advice rrb, I know its gonna be fun... The adjuster thing you speak of...I thought this was just a clamp ... have you got a p/n or more info on this as I can't find it available... Cheers
  12. Failed on front number plate delaming and to front nearside draglinks ... one behind axel attached to steering damper and one at front of axel attached to steering box...I've got 2 new ones...the old ones are very dry and rusty/ flakey..any tips for getting them off ... I haven't got serious heat...only a blow lamp.... It's looking like a bitch job with the corrosion but I'm over the moon.... Cheers Rich
  13. Why is there no area for general discussions and other / 2nd vehicles....my other car after my tdi is a piece of carp vectra that I have to use from 'an economy' point of view...its got probs I'm tryin to sort out at mo and would rather take my chances asking here than going on an alien forum....vauxhall forum looks cack anyway... Plus the knowledge and mature approach here is good.... I can't moan to much cos I'm not a supporting member - yet, but we've all got 2nd run abouts and other topics to discus.... Just a query to the mods.... Rich
  14. youve only gotta look at the letters and the transmission type to identify... Manual Transmission Fluid - MTF Automatic Transmission Fluid - ATF if you stick anything other than MTF in an R380 manual....youd better start doing some body building cos its a heavy lump to change unless its a bit of molyslip - or a pair of yer missus's nylon tights to quieten it down......lol...no I havent.... Rich
  15. I gotta agree with Les... Good luck... like i said, theres variation between the testers....testers wont want to go in depth of the rules to justify a pass - especially a snotty nosed kid thats trying to impress the gaffer... theyre funny f**ckers and itll either pass or fail but for gods sake, let us know cos if it passes....their bookings for TDIs will rocket....lol Rich
  16. No if the seats are in....I wouldn't trust a tester .. There is too much inconsistency between em all. Some fail sills outright for rot, some won't...same with boot floor welded bolted or rivet....some pass as its nor structural, some say its indirectly structural.... I'm no expert but I can see there's a lot of variation from station to station... Rich
  17. Bit away from the norm.... Do you wave or acknowledge other disco drivers - especially if they're toys are pimped? Lol I know quite a few to wave to on my daily route but have never met em in my life....its just respect... The one that springs to mind is an office guy that is dressed like a 'mod' shirt skiny tie etc....that drives an orange disco that's just pimped with everything...lift kit, massive tyres, winch etc... Even had random guys park next to me in the supermarket in their discos just to chat..... All walks of life .... a classless car....imo Rich
  18. If its full sill...it ain't a 2 minute job...as Les says, its major work. Usually on these beasts you start out doing the sill and it spreads to floorwells, wheel arches, door pillars, body mountings... The finished result is very rewarding if done right and mot man says yes....but you need the right mindset to succeed...eg...you've gotta want to do it with love and enthusiasm lol... Rich
  19. And if the ball joint collapses, it shoots up and goes thru the brake line like it did on mine
  20. Lol at the Mr muscle one....although I bet it works the best!....can just imagine that weedy bloke off the advert I'm marrigolds stood by a lifted and grizzly clawed disco...lol
  21. Why would a lift affect the mot if using approved parts?..just curious.... Rich
  22. As a temp measure until better weather...smear a load of vaseline around the outside where the plastic joins the body.... And wear a hood wen yer driving lol
  23. Well job done....the caliber union surprisingly came out but the other end - the 3 way on the top of the diff was seized solid. Cut it off level drilled and 1st time ever had success with an easy out New pipe fitted and bled up fine What a Sunday....oh and congrats to blues...I'm a yid so anti gunners
  24. every bstard nut and bolt has got to be angle ground off as their all knackered makes interesting times in and out of the rain.... i dont like to look of the caliper union either - ie ...thats not gonna come out without a fight! am i right in thinking the front and back reservoirs are independant due to the "partition" in the header bottle?.. Rich
