  1. I am hoping to bring 2 shiney new galvanised chassis home to Ireland with me from Billing (either collect them there or do a detour). The problem is I am doing 2 new projects: A Series IIA - easy - buy from Richards Chassis. But the other project is a coil sprung Series III with Disco / R Rover engine, drivetrain, etc. I assumed that that too would be easy - just buy from Designa Chassis. They have all the options I need available on their website. There we have a problem. I contacted them a couple of weeks ago and they said that they were not taking any new orders as they cannot get parts. Their supplier (whom I assume is SPI) have moved to Canada and they have no parts now. So any suggestions who else would make this type of chassis? Thanks boys and girls! Simon.
  2. Thank you Gromit & Western! Just what I need.
  3. Thanks for the reply, Western. Did a search and spent ages looking for the post you mentioned. I can't find it anywhere. Any chance you know where it is or what I should search for? Thanks! Simon.
  4. The best compromise I've ever had is Old Man Emu +2" shocks and springs kit. Gwyn Lewis sells them but ensiure all your bushes are in good order - that will help. Clickie Linky: Gwyn Lewis The anti roll bars will limit articulation off road. Without them on the road a Discovery is like a boat! Suggest leave them on for the monent and see if you can live without taking them off. Hope this helps? Simon.
  5. Hi folks, I am transplanting a 200TDi from a Disovery into a Defender and am just getting oil cooler pipes made up. Does anyone know what pressure the oil should be when the engine is running as the pipe maker needs to know to spec the pipes. I'd appreciate any help. Thank you! Simon.
  6. Hi boys and girls, Just installing a new flywheel in a 2003 TD5 110. Would any of you have the correct td5 torque settings by any chance? I cannot find them in the workshop manual. Thanks! Simon.
  7. Thanks BogMonster, mmm... no access to either. Just thinking - Could maybe rob a few hours on a 2 post lift if my Dad is in a good mood. Engine out so? Would it be prudent to change flywheel while it's all out anyway? Thanks again!
  8. Hi folks, does anyone know when changing the clutch in a 2003 Defender 110 TD5 should the flywheel be changed too or just the normal clutch parts? Also, is it easier to take out the gearbox or the engine to do the job? Thanks!
  9. Anyone heard rumours that Land Rover are to make a special edition Defender next year for their 60th? Someone told me they are going to and it will be an auto too. I searched the web but can't find anything.
  10. My company are just about to sell our one. It's a 2005 90 with rear seats, mohair hood and full rollcage. Only problem for you is that it's in Dublin, Ireland. All professionally installed. If you were interested I will look into getting a price for you? As Sterling versus Euro is stong it may well be woth your while.
  11. We have run Td5s for the last 4 years and while we have had MANY problems with drivetrain (mostly bearings, gearboxes, shafts, clutches, tyres, etc) we have never had ANY engine problems at all. In fact far fewer than on our TDi 110s and Discoverys. The oldest ones (TD5s) we have are 2002. I would say most of the trouble is caused by so many different inexperienced drivers using our vehicles. If you are the only one driving then you can be more sympathetic (SP??) and listen out for new noises, etc. My Dad has a 1999 TD5 90 and he did have to replace injectors, fuel pump and filters and that was expensive. Again, apart from that it's bullet proof. We are a teambuilding company based in Ireland and these vehicles are used all day, everyday (weel about 5 days a week) through real off-road situations (water over the bonnet, etc). We service them every 6000 miles and check over them each day. This website might help: web-rover Also, images of our vehicles are on our website: Ireland Xtreme
  12. I got one from Paddocks a few months ago - not sure why they said they didn't have them? They buy them from SPI (used to be PWB) so any other SPI outlet may be able to help?
  13. Thanks guys! I didn't realise the gearbox mounts would be in the correct position as standard for an auto. Which supplier is best?
  14. I am contemplating buying a new Galvanised Chassis from either Designa Chassis or Richards, and was wondering which chassis (2.5D, 200TDI, 300TDi, etc?)would have mounts that would be suitable for use with a V8 engine and auto box, if any? Any experience using these companies? Any other suggestions? All help much appreciated
  15. Thanks for the quick replies. Looks like 3.9 is going in so!! How difficult is it to do it? I did a search but the search function keeps giving errors Thanks again!
  16. mmmmm - Thanks for the replies. Maybe a 3.9 is on the way so!! Does anyone know if it an easy change? I haven't looked at it in too much detail yet. Thanks folks!
  17. for long term realibility - 3.5 EFi or 3.9EFI? I aready have a 3.5 and it's running fine but just about to do an auto conversion in the 90 (autobox from a 3.9 which I belive will mate straight to the 3.5) and the 3.9 engine is going cheap, If I want it. Would it be worth the hassle of changing the 3.5 out for the 3.9 for the extra power (is here much of a difference in power between the 2?)? I heard that after 120,000 miles the 3.9 is prone to block cracks. All help / suggestions / pi$s taking appreciated
  18. Judging from the lack of replies perhaps I should steer clear of them.
  19. I was supposed to receive rock sliders from them as a Christmas Present from my bro in law. No sign of them either!! They were supposed to arrive in early January but didn't. His credit card hasn't been charged though. I would be delighted to hear any news as I don't want to seem rude and call them directly.
  20. I am looking for a LR specialist to do some work for me - upgrade on a 90 to be precise. Inc. new engine, gearbox, respray and general tidyup. Has anyone used Haywrds in (www.hayward4x4.com). The seem good. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
  21. That's all great info, folks. Thank you! I am still a few weeks away from starting on it so any other suggestions would still be appreciated
  22. Hi again - any other garages worth talking to - especially near wales / midlands? Thanks!
  23. Thanks Chis. Yes - a guy over here recommended them already so it's good to hear that. pigster - thanks but I want to keep my own 90 and unfortunatlry I do not have the time to build it myself. Thanks guys!! Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
  24. My 90 is a little past it's best in the looks department. I am looking for a good garage to stick in a V8 and auto box (any suggestions which V8 I should use?? - want reliability and good power), get the interior back to a nice new-ish look (+central lock and lekkie windows, heated front and rear windscreen, comfy seats, etc) and a full respray. Maybe even new alloys!! Do you have any suggestions for a good reliable garage that will all do the work for me without charging the earth? I know it won't be cheap but don't want to pay over the odds either. I am based in Ireland but am willing to travel for the right crew! Thanks folks!!
