  1. Thanks Raplh. Nice to have a bit of reassurance that it looks right. I'll get on and do the other side now. Cheers...Al
  2. Sorry, got the part name wrong. The manual calls it a lower link and the photo is of the upper mount (triangular shape) held in with three bolts. It is a 130 with helper springs but no lift, and last time I looked it was not upside down!
  3. I finally got round to polybushing the rear panhard rod today. (well one side anyway!) Not sure if it has gone together right so please have a look at the pic and let me know. There seesm to be this gap that I can't get rid of that the original rubber bush did not have. Anyone else polybushed this bit, and can compare? Thanks
  4. I had some insaturbos fitted to wolf steel rims the other day. The fitter had a nightmare job trying to balance them. The best ones were marked 'front' and he said I would probably get a nasty wobble if I put them on the wrong way round. They were 235/85's.
  5. I use my 130 tipper for tree surgery, and so need to make sure I have the heaviest duty springs fitted. Are 130's fitted with HD springs as standard, and is there a way of telling what springs are currently fitted. The rear springs have the smaller helper springs fitted inside as well. Any pointers as to what shocks should be fitted would be appreciated as well. Al.
  6. Did that as well. Even looked up the adresses on google streetview to see if there was a land rover parked outside
  7. I have been trying to get hold of Aaron Morris who is on this forum and lives in Doncaster. It was agreed that I would buy his TD5 engine, and had arranged to pick it up this sunday. My problem is that I do not have his address, and have not been able to make contact with him for a week and a half Does anyone on here know him or able to get a message to him? Thanks for any help Al.
  8. Ah, I get it now. Sorry being thick I'm a tree surgeon not a mechanic lol
  9. Thanks for replies. I find all these different Landy gearboxes confusing :? What bits do I need to buy/change to get a 300tdi R380 suffix J to fit to a TD5 engine? Thanks...Al
  10. Does that mean my transfer box won't fit, or I need to change more bits?
  11. I am planning on putting a TD5 engine in my 130 to replace the knackered 300tdi. I need a TD5 gearbox.... I have a dead 300tdi R380 I can rebuild (bearings went big time) and put a td5 bell housing and mainshaft in it. Or I can get a reconditioned td5 gearbox, but will my transferbox fit straight on? The cost of a rebuild kit + bellhousing and main shaft is not far off the price of a recon unit. What would you do? Al
  12. Now there's a thought! LEZ only applies to commercial diesel vehicles i do like V8's - my other toy is a Triumph Stag with original 3.0l V8 !
  13. Hi Philip The TD5 is a Euro III engine, so it is LEZ compliant. My 300tdi has done 130000 miles and lacks power, as well as oil blowing out everywhere The gearbox has a syncro problem with crunching gear changes. The chassis is good and has a purpose made tipping body on it for tree surgery, hence the reason why I would rather pay for a TD5 engine/gearbox, than try and sell my 300tdi which I don't think in its present state would make much money. I did see this on Ebay a while ago: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250539464590&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Anyone used them? Cheers...Al
  14. I am looking to replace my 300tdi engine with a Td5 engine to meet emissions law in London. Any recommendations for suppliers? I know there's EBay but had some not so good experiences with EBay. Cheers...Al
  15. Is there much difference between 'Polybush' and 'Superpro' makes?
  16. Just wondering if anyone can recommend someone to do a compression test on my 300tdi. Seems to be very under under powered, oil coming out from the cylinder head, and side of the engine, also collects on the top of the engine under the pad. Was planning on changing to a TD5 next year to get around the emissions zone regulations, but might have to do it a bit sooner?
  17. Thanks Guy, I will check the manual and adust it. Al
  18. Thanks for your replies and advice everyone. I will pick up some MTF94 and let you know what happens. Cheers...Al
  19. Do you think that it will make a difference to the crunching?
  20. Iv'e got Dexron III ATF in mine as per the hand book. Is Evo oil better then, and could/Should it make a difference? Al.
  21. My R380 box had some bearing failure recently, so I picked up a second hand box and transfer box for not a lot of money. Swapped over the boxes the other day, and whilst the gearbox is sooo much quieter than my previous one, I have the following problems: Changing from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd crunches unless I allow the revs to drop down, and then I almost end up in the wrong gear for the speed. 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th is fine. Coming back down through the box from 5th I can't find 4th gear unless I go to engage another gear and then come back to 4th, and then it slots in fine from 4th to 3rd and from 3rd to 2nd crunches again. Is this a syncro problem or is there an alignment adjustment I can make? Clutch operation is fine although the pedal is a little low, and after trying to adjust it, it would not go any higher. Any thoughts/advice appreciated. Al.
  22. Last week my exhaust gave up the battle with the tinworm I was thinking of just replacing the front silencer section and putting a down pointing tail pipe on the silencer and leaving it like that. My defender is a tipper so could possibly work. What do you all reckon? Al
