  1. If you get the chance have a look at them, as the after market ones are a lot thinner than the originals.
  2. I've got a spare 300tdi expansion tank if you want it? I am in West End near Lightwater and M3. I'll be at home from 1.00pm onwards. I'll send a pm as well.
  3. I've got the TD5 bellhousing and TD5 t/c on the 300tdi zf4, so should be a case of swapping them over. I suppose the input shaft could be different?
  4. Ok, cheers. Might give it a go. The disco transfer box might make a difference as well. I did try one when I did the conversion, but it was an unkown quantity and did'nt even last a day. Kind man from the AA came and rescued me.
  5. I prefer an auto as do quite a lot of town driving, as well as off road work. I also regularly take 3 people in the cab (cosy!) and it is much better for the center seat person not having the gearstick in the way!
  6. But better or worse than the 300tdi I have in at the moment? I might be able to get one for not many£££, so could be worth a shot.
  7. Is there a difference between a 3.5v8 zf4 and a 300tdi zf4?
  8. Thats a good point. I have emailed Ashcrofts to see what they say about the matter. Trying to avoid compushift as £££££
  9. Having converted my defender to TD5 (from 300tdi) and also from manual to auto using a zf4hp22 out of a disco 300tdi, I am having issues with the gearbox, as in it doesn't change up gear until the revs are quite high. I've tried adjsuting the kick down cable but doesn't make any difference, and now reckon that the ebay gearbox is knackered. If I am going to change the gearbox, is there a better one to use? Cheers...Al
  10. Don't use a longer bolt as it will foul the gears inside! Don't ask how I know....
  11. Finally figured it out. Checked all the earths and wiring volts as per pastycrimpers suggestions and all was ok. Realised today that the squirty didn't work either, so checked the wiring for that. Couldn't get a continuity for the earth so changed that, then couldn't get 12.5v on the black/green wire. Then noticed on the TD5 loom there are 2 black/green wires, so tried the other one and hey presto squirty worked, and also wipers as well! Why goes TD5 look have so many earth wires that do different things, not to mention wires of the same colour doing different things as well! Al
  12. First day driving with it today, and seems ok. Pulled out of a junction earlier, and just as I pulled out a car came round the corner, so put my foot down and started wheel spinning! Never did that with my 300tdi and R380, mind you I have a remap to 170 bhp as well.....
  13. Definately transfer box. Bits of needle roller and gear teeth came out with the oil. This transfer box was from a discovery and bought for £27 off ebay, so worth the gamble. Old 1:4 transfer box back on now
  14. AA mans been and disconnected props . Front and rear turn nicely, so must be transfer box. I just put on a disco box so was a bit unknown, BT seemed alright. Atleast I've got my 1:4 box at home which I can put back on tomorrow. Cheers.
  15. Running some wood out of a field, and heard a bang, then something seems to have locked up in the drivetrain. Can select all gears on auto box, but diff lock lever jammed. Landy moves about a foot forwards and backwards before locking up. Jacked one front wheel up and won't turn more than a few degrees. Diff liock lever looks to be disengaged but not sure. Does this sound like t/box or half shafts?
  16. Is the black one not genuine then? It was bought from Keith Gott and was supposed to be. Cost about £90 if I remember right just before Christmas. This one http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/13486/YBE100540-TRANSDUCER-SPEED-SENSOR.html?search=transducer&page=1 I've installed td5 engine and bulkhead looms, so hoped it would just plug in and play...
  17. As well as the wipers not behaving, took the landy out for its maiden drive after completing the conversion from 300tdi to TD5 and manual to auto only to find that the speedo doesn't work. Fitted a new oem transducer (black), and plugged into the TD5 loom but no worky? Could this be linked to the wipers not working?
  18. Thanks for your detailed reply. After changing the park switch everything worked fine except I lost fast speed. Now, with TD5 loom in place, the only way to turn off the wipers is to put the switch in the fast speed position. In all the other positions the wipers are going! Changing the engine, I decided to upgrade to a TD5 instruments, so used a complete dash loom. This also includes all the wiring for the ecu etc, do made sense. I'll get the meter out again, and compare closely the wiring diagram for the wipers for 300tdi and TD5. Cheers...Al
  19. Thought I had my electrics under control now, but the wiper motor wont turn off. before I started the conversion from 300tdi to TD5 I had problems with the motor not parking properly and intermittent not working properly, so replaced the parking switch and all was ok, except the fast speed stopped working. ok, I could liuve with that as everything else was working properly now. Fast forward to installing the TD5 and dash loom, now the wiper motor won't turn off except if I put it in fast speed position Wiring looks the same as the 300tdi, haynes talks about an earth on the body of the motor to the top mounting bolt, but haven't got one of those. Temporarily put on an earth to the bolt and touched it to the body of the motor, but did not make any difference. The wires to the parking switch has a black earth wire anyway. What could be the problem here? Cheers...Al
  20. I had Mike from Dynachip in yesterday to code my injectors and immobiliser to the ecu, and at the same time put a remap on the ecu. I was still in the process of sorting out some of the wiring as converted from 300tdi to TD5, and Mike turned up a bit earlier than I thought. He was more then happy to get his hands dirty helping me sort it out, particularly the starter motor, as all we could get was a click. We took the starter off and tested it, all was fine. Put it back on slightly loose as thought it might be an alignment issue but still no joy, eventually realised after putting a jump lead from the battery direct to the starter and it worked, that I had omitted the lead from the battery to the starter. All this time he was happy helping, and spent quite a bit longer than was intended. On top of that he came back after doing a couple of other jobs in the area, to help get the landy started for the first time. What a top bloke, and I would highyl recommend his services. No other connection other than a very happy customer. Al.
  21. Mystery solved - it is the wire for the oil pressure sensor, and even better the actual plug that is missing is on the sensor as well!
  22. Hi Dave, Both connections are on the airbox and maf already. It appears it is the wire for the oil pressure sensor, as I have not connected that yet, and the strange looking connector at the end of the wire is the inside of the plug! Will have a closer look tomorrow....
  23. I think it was plain white or white/black and comes out of the engine wiring loom near where the MAF wires exit.
  24. I have this wire flapping around at the back of the airbox, but can't see where it connects to. Any ideas please?
  25. Ah, ok. Good job I couldn't drive it to try and free it off!
