  1. Response from Derek Clarke UKIP MEP, para four say's it all. It seems the only responses I'm getting are from UKIP MP's, I know which way I'm voting next time! Thank you for your message about Historic Vehicles. You have my support in continuing to enjoy your motoring this way. I am not surprised that an organisation like FIVA would introduce a different definition to that which is accepted in the UK. This whole proposal is an EU scheme with a FIVA label, which means you have a problem. I know that those who have such vehicles in the UK have to comply with the appropriate UK laws. I am very happy with that as I hope are you. There is absolutely no need for the EU to become involved. Please be aware that all such new regulations of the EU are bureaucrat driven. Someone, usually a commissioner, has an idea and sets the process in motion. The difficulty is that those who both propose it, and those who draw up the paperwork, have no experience in that field. They have little experience in anything beyond an office desk. Thus are we subject to a deluge of regulations running to some 3000 ever year. As and when this comes before the European Parliament I shall vote against anything which conflicts with UK practice. With my UKIP colleagues we are doing that all the time but, unfortunately, we are almost always heavily outvoted so the real answer to your problem is to support UKIP in its policy of getting out of the EU altogether. Yours sincerely Derek Clark MEP
  2. Latest update from Bill, we need to keep an eye on the link to see who the committee are. You can use the ctrl key and wheel on the mouse to increase font size, if your still having trouble When the committee is decided, and when it gets started, yes, there will be a web-link to the committee's work. The committee meeting (whichever it is) will also be web-streamed so you can (if you wish) listen to its debates. As an example, here is the link to the Transport committee (which has not met since July of course) http://www.europarl.europa.eu/committees/en/tran/home.html Gravity is a myth - the earth sucks !!!
  3. Yesterday I wrote to 11 MEP's and 1 MP in the East Midlands and South West areas, using a modified version of Simon's original text (thanks). This is the first non-automated response that I've received. I'll try and get the contact details for the committee members and post them here. We can then send our own personal messages of concern. Dear Adrian, Thank you for the message. As I understand the situation, the Commission only produced its formal proposal on 13th July. When the standing committees of the European Parliament reconvene in the third week of September, the Commission proposal will be sent to one of them - perhaps to the Transport Committee (of which I am not a member). The chosen committee will debate it in public, listen to views from lobbyists and the public, write and report, and sometime (perhaps next spring) will vote its recommendations in public to the full parliament. Then there will be a big parliamentary debate in public and a vote on amendments proposed - which will be end of the the First Reading stage. The other EU legislative chamber (the Council of Ministers) will then react to ours by holding its First Reading and proposing its amendments. Then the parliament has a second reading and so on... The key for yourself is to make sure that your views are heard by members of the committee. You can do it yourself, or an umbrella organistion (such as "ACE" I believe) should do it for you on a bigger scale. So a long way to go, and lots of open-ness for the discussions. All good wishes Bill Newton Dunn, Lib Dem MEP www.newton-dunn.com Gravity is a myth - the earth sucks !!!
  4. What me? Nosey? I'm just checking you've tightened it up proper!
  5. I've just put a 300 tdi Disco rear axle in my 90 V8 so that I have disc's, also put a Truetrac in. It has the integrated hub and shaft which isn't ideal, but as the whole axle was free (thanks John)it's perfect. Works great and the brakes are much better. The Truetrac works well and you don't even know its there during normal driving. I don't do serious stuff and don't need a locker. Steve at Crowndiffs sorted the diff for me and I can highly recommend him. Make sure your breather and pipe is clear when re-fitting, mine was totally blocked. Also to get more articulation, the mount on the axle for the bottom link (trailing arm) needs grinding out on the upper surface, otherwise they come into contact very early. Gravity's a myth, the earth sucks!
  6. What you need is a 12v batt, trembler coil and some wires - connect it to an insulated door handle (that's the difficult but not impossible bit), when they try the door handle they provide the earth and get the benefit of about 40,000 volts, the same as you would get from a spark plug. My garage never got broken into..... but next doors did.
  7. Hi I use Mtrack, I think there's a discount link on here somewhere. Never used in anger, but they have called me very quickly on many occasions to tell me Lulu has moved when she shouldn't have. Seems to work well. Cheers
  8. He's been in hospital but has been responding to emails - try that.
  9. I've reported it to fleabay as its misleading - youre paying the deposit for a full re-build !!! Looks like a piece of carp to me. Gravity is a myth - the earth sucks.
  10. I had a replacement from Beaumonts and it was very noisy, worse than the one I took out. I had it replaced with an Ashcroft, its much better. Part of this could be explained be the photo on this page http://www.4x4gearboxes.co.uk/profile.htm Its not a good idea to have a bench grinder on the same bench as the one with a stripped gear box. But what do I know! Gravity is a myth - the earth sucks!!!
