  1. All back together weeks ago and guess what? Smokes exactly the same as it did before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. I reckon it's got to be witchcraft Carb in bit's again, new plugs, points, checked valves not sticking/re-set, fuel is getting through, there is a spark but she wont have it, fires, want's to run but won't
  3. Plugs are dry so it's not flooding! Checked both solonoid cut-off jobs en carb and they are working OK! ?????????????
  4. B*llox! Spent half the morning on her-NO joy! So off in the Disco tomorrow night! Recap: Very occasional fuel starvation not enough to stop her but enough to be a pain, always been a first time starter, never let me down.Overhauled the carb, stared first time sweat as, set off to pick kids up from school when the warning light came on for the alternator.Used it a few times since started no problem & ran well.Changed alternator with one off a 2.25 diesel, started then stalled, would'nt start so I put it down to being out of petrol.Went to get some petrol and it's never ran since.Turns over, fires with no back fireing but just wont start. Fuel pumps working OK,fuel's getting to the carb. The only things I've done is clean carb with a overhaul kit, put a new nut on to manifold as one was missing out of the four, tighten exhaust up onto manifold as it was loose & blowing and change alterrnator-Am I going MAD? Cheers Jason
  5. Stripped/overhauled carb, cleaned filter, put another filter in just before the carb. Started first time ran like a "good un" set off on the school trip, charging light came on after about 3 miles, u-turn, back home. Alternators knacked, nicked one off my 2.25 diesel, started, warning light went off, stalled, wont start or trys to start but wont rev/run & the sun went down!
  6. These engines either had a weber 32/34 DMTL or a zenith carb ,bods tend to recomende the Zenith if it's a good one as they are prone to warping. From memory if it's a three bearing crankshaft it would have been light green and later 5 bearing ones were red.
  7. Hi chaps The 110 (2.1/4 petrol) has just developed an intermittant fuel starvation problem, runs like a sack of spuds, like there is a piece of carp intermittantly blocking one of the jets. There is a fuel pump with a filter next to the fuel tank, which I have cleaned a few times, each time it has carp in it but not enough to block it. I'm going to drain the fuel tank, put an extra fuel filter in just before the carb (weber) that I'm also going to strip and clean (already have a renovation kit). Urgent as I have an off road outing coming up next Friday night 21st Nov and would like to avoid looking like a tw*t at 2am in the 50cm of mud in the middle of a forest Anything to watch out for when stripping the weber carb? any other ideas? Thanks in advance Jason
  8. No worries Les sorted! Managed to get them out OK, knock out away from the bores You must have a big oven, head would'nt fit in ours so I put it in front of the fire, had to use a drill to lap valves in as they were that bad!
  9. Try a inlet valve guide and let me know what happens
  10. I always do it with at least 4 ratchet straps under, bell housing, box, transfer box and over chassis-"slowly, slowly catch monkey" When the full weight is held on straps and all the bell housing bolts are out I use another ratchet strap onto hand brake drum and rear cross member to pull box off engine.Takes a bit of time but less risk of getting squashed!
  11. Sorry to contradicte you Les but the valve guides knock out away from the bores! or at least mine do! Inlet valve guides knocked out quite easily as they are quite short in comparison to the exhaust valve guides that properly won't budge-Not got access to a press either:angry: Valve seats are well shot at but will re-lap,one of the exhaust valves had taken a "Bing" on the seat lip, loads of carbon/oil behind the inlet valves and exhaust ports. Cleaned the head up, polished exhaust/inlet ports (well sort of,more like cleaned them) currently lapping valves in but stuck for changing exhaust valve guides as if I start realy tw*tting them to get them out they are just going to get damaged! and still not come out
  12. Thanks again Les Waiting for bit's now.
  13. Any one know if the valve guides will tap out or do they need a press?
  14. Cheers les That explains why I can't find any injector washers either if they are in with the head sets!
  15. Thanks chaps! How easy are the valve guides to change? hammer out or press? Where the hell do you get the valve seals from? I have had them before in a head gasket set but I can't seem to find them listed any where???????
  16. Snagger Dont know? All I can say is that when I had a look this morning all the diesel had drained out of the four pots! ciappi It's a copper gasket, 100% intact, no signs of water/oil leakages, looks like it's been blowing between pot's (especialy 2 & 3) but less reckons it could just be the heat? Had a valve out, they need lapping in again and the valve oil seals are well sloppy Probably going to have a bit of fun: strip it all down, clean, & polish all the ports etc.........
  17. It's a 1979 2.25 diesel, I want to get a head gasket from paddocks as I have a load of other stuff to get from them but have this little voice in the back of my head (some say it's due to excess of red wine ) that says "Don't be a spupid git, it will be carp and you will only have it all to do again". Any one comfirm? If so anyone suggest where I can get a good gasket set sent out to France from? Cheers
  18. Seeing as I've blown my mig welder up doing the chassis, had to get on with other stuff. So I whipped the head off this aftgernoon! Looks like it was blowing between all 4 cylinders from the head gasket. Filled all 4 pots up with diesel and it has'nt drained through rings yet (2hrs ago) so I dont think that the rings are are gummed up. Not had time to fully inspect yet but it does'nt look like water-ways/oil-ways were leaking which must mean that the valve seals have gone to cause all the smoke. Thoughts?
  19. Lazy? Naaa "Inteligent" I take that back otherwise i would'nt have bought the bl**dy thing
  20. Thanks Les Snagger Rear cross member and all the out riggers have already been replaced in a past life, blasted the chassis down with a VERY power full power wash and the rest of the chassis is surprisingly good. Last photos before my welder went up in smoke
  21. Thanks for all your replies. Thought as much! Brute force and ignorance
  22. Thanks ! Was hopeing to change in situ, but if the springs have to come off so be it!
  23. Listed but dunt mean they have them! Paddocks did'nt have any in stock last month, got mine from Craddocks.
  24. Cheers! going well already got one side done.
  25. I would check availability first! When I wanted a 1/4 front end chassis for the series 3 109 was told that the company had gone bust and no stock anywhere, struggled to get hold of a pair of dumb irons.
