i have found that the crank bolt will come undone using a breaker bar the proper way (by hand!), just put the disco in gear and handbrake on fully, providing you have some muscle! Usually tight for a couple of turns due to loctite. All the 200 and the the 300 tdi i have done the crank pully has come of with a little nudge form a pry bar, no puller required, maybe i have been lucky!

Well finally got my backside in gear and did the cam belt............wrong cam belt kit!!! even worse the rad is knackered! i Bought a kit from paddocks going by my chassis number, took the disco apart and found the idler and tensioner are wrong, the ones they sent look more like a 200 tdi set up? i guess this is the early 300 type? Still its answered my question, my disco has a later engine in it as fitted to chassis sequence VA and up.

I have put a 200tdi from a disco in the rangie to replace the VM lump, all is working apart from the temp gauge, should i use the sender unit from a disco or a rangie? i would have thought they were the same?

right o, cheers, guess i will just have to look and see BAz

Probably been asked a thoudand times but i will ask anyway, what engine number did the cam belt kits change on a disco 300 tdi? reason i ask is my disco had a new engine fitted by LR a few years back so getting a cam belt kit using the VIN number may not get me the correct one, if you see what i mean. Cheers Baz

here are some pics of when i did my RRC and the brothers disco, they are very similar to bobtail, except the disco has a steel roof so it can be welded with ease. link to website Link 2

Cheers Baz

Replace a knacked Borg Warner with a LT230?
bazza replied to HM Nut Strangler's topic in Range Rover Forum
whats up with your BW case? VC seized? i have decent BW case sat in the shed but the VC is seized on it, i was using for 6 months with out trouble. if it helps its yours for a beer token. Baz -

Whats IIRC? The speedo is electromic but thats run from a short speedo cable with some sort of transponder bolted to the chassis. Cheers Baz

Any ideas what this sensor is for? fitted to the rear of a Borg Warner Transfer case 1993 RRC. carp picture i know!

having used mine for a lot of off roading and used by brothers disco with the 200 in it, they really are quite different engines to drive with. On the road the VM was a bit quicker, but off road always struggled. What intercooler did you use? i guessing its quite an impressive up grade?
-
The VM is OK on the road but does not have the low down tourqe of the tdi, as i bought a complete disco for £200 with a cracking engine it seemed a shame not to pop it in the range rover. And it will incease the resale value if i sell the rangey, everybody seems to be scared of VM's, as demonstrated when i tried to sell the engine, not a single offer even though it was on several webistes and clubs for a mere £100ono!! The bell housing for the VM is totally different to the tdi, plus i want to get rid of the Borg Warner transfer case as it is seized solid, so a complete swap has been done, ta da! Note to self - tdi engine mounts are handed, dont weld them on the wrong way round!!!

OK, maybe a simpleton question but i'm gonna ask it. im fitting a 200tdi with gearbox and t case from a early disco to my RRC that did have a BW trans case. which type of gearbox mounts should i use? the single mid mount as on the disco that mounts to the crossmember or the pair of mounts as used on the BW t case that mount to the chassis and put the cross member in the forward position? i have looked at other conversions and none of them are the same!! which is best? i have the complete disco for donor parts. Once i sussed that, can the gearbox and engine be put back into the chassis whilst bolted together? seems easier than tyring to mate up underneath? Cheers Baz

No thanks, got enough vehicles lying around as it is. will crack on with the transplant some time soon, i want to keep the range rover chassis and body as i have modified it quite a lot and dont fancy doing it again. Currently running a VM 2.5 TD so the 200 tdi will be a nice upgrade. P.S. VM 2.5 TD, LT77 gearbox and BW trans case for sale, in good working order if anyone is intrested.
-
True.. But not with a 200tdi for a small price like the disco i just got , maybe i will just swap engine, gearbox and transfer case instead.
