Reckon this is one of the prototypes and a very early production freelander, good at collecting dust at least!

I have been told that if Land Rover converted a RRC from VM to 200tdi with LT77 they used the original VM gearbox, 200tdi bell housing, custom spigot bush STC1166 and custom clutch friction plate STC1169? Is there an after market friction plate availalbe to replace STC1169? as LR are asking over £200 for a replacement. Baz

Problem solved seems water and electrics dont mix well!!! a damp relay was to blame leaving the ignition live all the time!! wey Hey, dont play in deep puddles!!! Bazza

Over the weekend my LT77 5 speed fitted in a RRC tdi has developed a real phobea for reverse gear! the reverse gate has become very stiff and sometime jams up completely (not great when your window deep in mud!). is the selector gate on top of the gearbox or internal? do they have a habit of seizing up? MY 92 RRC tdi has developed a great problem! unlike normal RR probs, i cant turn me engine off!!! all the ancillaries turn off; like the fan and stereo etc. but the engine keeps running and the oil/battery and brake warning lights systems stay live! so if i stall it the lights will come on and stay on. always start no worries. is there a seperate relay for the ancillaries and the engine contols? my workshop manual CD doesn't have a wiring diagram!!! could it just be the ignition switch? Cheers Baz

The VM beasts have the same LT77 as the others just need to change the bellhousing, thrust bearing and release fork. The slave cylinders are the same as the 200tdi, this i know as i just ditched the VM from my RRC for a 200tdi Baz

Mike, I have the sender for a Disco in my 200tdi but need a RRC sender and it seems you need the disco one and have a RRC one, fancy a swap? i'm guessing yours is the tomcat around Saxon? if so i work next door in the Oil Spill base. Baz

Are the temp gauge sender units in the 200tdi different for the disco and RRC? i fitted a 200tdi into my RRC (replacing the 2.5VM) and the only thing that aint working is the temp gauge, it works fine when earthed out though and the temp gauge worked when the engine was in the disco chassis. im guessing they work at different reseistance? Saw a build in a magazine (LRO maybe??) just recently where the guy used a peugeot or citreon electric pump i think on a landy and it was working a treat, had it located in the seat box IIRC. Baz -
We used the Patrol 5 speed box, Range Rover axles and 7.50x16 tyres, worked really well. bit tight getting the box in there though! Baz

Hi mate, i made my own steering gaurd (and everything else) for my Range Rover. The gaurd was quite simple to make just took a bit of time getting the dimensions correct for the mounts. Mine bolts to the insde of the chassis rail to the bumper bolts and the the steering box bottom bolt. i will post some pictures soon for you. as for the dimensions just make a cardboard template then cut the metal, Easy! Great Day, the Rangey survived its first outing for monthseven with a few deeper than expected dunkings! B) Brothers Disco limped home with the oil light coming on at tickover

Thats should stir a few! quite agree with ya. What starter motor are you running? i could not find a 12volt starter for the SD33 so converted the 110 to 24v. Baz

I run a Landcruiser 4.2 td with auto and all i can say is its brilliant. 190,000miles on the button and without fault, autobox is a pleasure with plenty of power. The Big end bearings do suffer on higher mileage engines, changed mine at 170,000, only one set had some metal fatigue on the white metal the rest were fine but i have seen some that are really knackered at 150,000 and it doesn't seem to be related to service history. The auto box does need a little fiddling to make more user friendly in low range as the ecu remaps the gearshift pattern when in low (basicallly does not change gear until high in the rev range), i thinks its called the "7 wire mod" or something like that. basically by removing one wire from the ecu harness the ecu does not know your in low and sticks to the normal gearshift. for more info on the engines etc see this link I put a Nissan 3.3 6cyl diesel with 5 speed patrol box in a 110 tipper, brilliant truck loads of power, shame the chassis rusted away around the engine and box! The 4.0 litre Cherokee my brother had was really quick (and juicy!) and great fun to drive, no problems with running gear, just the b****y electrics were a nightmare, if something worked one day it wouldn't the next! although you could be safe in the fact it would work again in a few days time! Baz
