  1. I've got an EGT to fit as you said, and a big intercooler from a Volvo t5, but I want to fit each thing bit by bit so I can see the improvements. I was wondering what the different insurance firms are like with e LPG, taking that they know of course

  2. Been thinking for a while now about fitting an lpg systems to my 300tdi, not the high cost injection system but the piped into intercooler type, just wondering if other people have done it, and if there has been any problems or best ways to fit etc.

  3. Hi folks,

I'll soon be needing to replace the clutch in my 200tdi Disco. Any pointers on which clutch to buy, and probably more importantly which ones to avoid?

It'll be the first one I've done, and will probably follow Les's method from the tech archive.

Disco is on 235/85s with standard ratios, some propane, and tows a heavy trailer fairly often, so I wonder if there's a heavy duty option and if it would be worthwhile?

    Cheers

sorry to hijack but how does your propane work, is really easy to fit,

  4. I used to always keep jewellers rouge in the van, and can get some canny scratches out with a bit of hard work, also Aldi did a 2 part windscreen polish/covering? a few months back, might have to wait a bit for it to come in again

  5. the model he has got is a newer one ,the V stands for venturi, and is more compact and more powerful. I looked a while back for the diagrams, even the local webasto service centre didn't have any info on it, when I looked , might have better luck this time.

  6. Hi, I've got some G4 paint which I bought a few years ago , (rush of blood to the head) and I was going to use it , then not and now I am going to use, thought what the hell. I was advised to use red oxide primer to make the colour deeper (existing colour is white) but have been warned against this due to the paint cracking, has anyone used it or can give any more advice either way , cheers Orchie

  7. Hi, I have just bought a 300tdi Disco engine :P to go into a series 2a station wagon but have been given conflicting advice on whether to fit the gearbox as well, bearing in mind I want to be totally legal about the point tally system. But do I fit both the engine and box or change the diffs to give better gearing , hoping to benefit from your knowledge. Bluemoon

  8. would a 500w invertor(durite) power a 70w fridge, (approx size 600x500x500, mini compressor fitted , out of adsa), and if so how many amps would it use from a leisure battery, or would it have to be connected to running engine to work

  9. you don't need to spend a fortune to convert, when I first converted I used the stuff I had lying around and did't pay for anything, when I realised it worked, and how good it was , I just refined the system a little.

At first my valves were simple airline valves, and I just stopped the motor , lifted the bonnet and changed by hand . Ran like that for 12mths, then installed the electric solenoids for £12 from ebay , the heat exchanger was made from left over pipe, but would cost £15, if that, then the tank, old outbord tank is perfect with hand primer, even if you had to buy new, £20 to £25 , really is dead easy. Just wish I had done it 20years ago. Even now with a sngle tank system, I use a webasto fuel heater bought for £75 ebay to heat engine and oil and cab. Since then I have bought another 2 from a scrap yard , that didn't know what they were for ........ £15 each , which I am going to install into my other Landrovers.

So like I said you don't need to spend fortune.

  10. I went to the local Hewden plant hire place for exactly the same question and he gave me hydraulic oil, used for diggers and stuff, because its bio-degradable, he said it was the only thing they use on their compessors, the type for heavy road breakers and stuff, cheers Brian

  11. It may be better to have your valves as close to the injecter pump as possible, I had mine 6" away, because a lot of diesel will be "wasted" going thru all the pipe and filter, better to have two separate filters, and two switches for the solenoids or you mix the fuels, I never had the diesel running thru the lift pump, but thru a hand primer, which i think works better. If you have no leaks the fuel will stay up by the engine and run no problems. Then that way fuel changes takes a few seconds instead of a few minutes , which adds up to costing more

  12. I have a single tank system, running on wvo. in my300tdi Defender. I used to have a twin tank system but found the system I have now works better. The twin tank system ran with the oil in the main tank, with an outboard tank of diesel on the roofrack. It was switched over with electric 12v solenoid valves( looked like washing machine inlet valves but were used for irrigation, couple off quid of ebay) These were excellent . You need to check the valves can cope with the temperature of 80c, and not restrict the fuel once open, I suffered from fuel starvation with some similar ones to above and I would recommend a 9mm bore pipe. The heat exchanger I made myself, and very neat and very hard to spot. I replaced the heater rail pipe that runs from the front of the engine to the back, to the heater matrix , with 22mm copper pipe , soldiered on two flattened pipes for brackets then wrapped 8mm minibore copper down the length. Took about 3m of pipe so plenty of heat transfer. Then the engine cover would go on over that. Worked great, but every now and again I would forget to change over onto the diesel and starting in cold weather was a real pain, and flattened batteries . Hence the single system, I preheat the engine and the oil and the cab about 15 to 30mins before I go out, with a remote control(battery guard £20), using a fuel burning heater, much better, cheaper to run(runs on red diesel, legally) and uses less to heat up. Winner all round. If you want pictures , I'll try and post some up later. Camera is flat an moment, and I've never posted pictures so might take some time, from what I've heard. cheers Brian

  13. Do a search on the forum, the wiring diagram has been posted up before. The main loom connectors which plug into the main unit are like hens teeth - you will not find these anywhere to buy new. Search Wabasto on ebay they sometimes come up on there, or get in touch with the Landy breakers such as Equicar to see if they have a TD5 Disco or TD4 Freelander they are breaking - the Wabasto was fitted as an aux heater to these - they may be able to cut out the loom. Also try speaking to Paul Gofton at Wabasto in Doncaster (IIRC) and if he is still there - very helpful. I believe the UK details are on the web.

I've got the wiring diagram for the Discovery td5 heater , but this one is out of the discovery 3 or range rover sport so those are no good as the connections are different, 8pin instead of 6pin. I'll try looking that guy up, cheers
