  1. Not an option I'm afraid, I can change engines and gearboxs etc, but would not have a clue on rebuilding and its my daily driver , so I need it back on the road, asap . They are local to me and are pretty good , not the usual tealeafs, they are insurance write offs, not end of life breakers.

  2. As the title says, my 300tdi in my Defender is knackered, and I have had a look a the local breakers and he has got two, one with 185k on it , looks quite clean and another, fitted without an auto box, with the electronic stop solenoid, which has got 130k on the clock, and looks really clean as does the rest of the motor(both Discoverys).

Would the latter fit my gearbox and whats the chances of getting the engine fired up with the electronic bit , or what do I need to take if I take the engine out. cheers for any help.

  3. just wondering if anyone has fitted an Iveco engine in their Defender, and if it was a straight fit to gearbox, just I have a Iveco Daily to get rid of and the engine is sound, would go nicely into my 130 if it was relative simple. cheers for any info in advance.

  4. I like the size of the box, would it not be worthwhile to extent the front to cope with cornering / jackknife, you might wished you had later, after all it is a heavy trailer for size of luggage area, no criticism as I have a much larger sankey camping trailer project on the go, and I need as much room as possible, best of luck which way you go.

  5. did see one front bumper sealed up, with an A bar to store engine oil, for a oil change on safari, filled at the top of A bar and drain at one side of the bumper. I think it was on an old series , could be used for diesel, frees up space for other things.

  6. yes that's an option, but also waste of energy . I was wanting to just be able to slow charge overnight while at the caravan( no mains electric), I thought I might be able to bypass the inverter with a bit of simple circuitry, seems a waste to have 12v , change to 240v then back to 12v again.

  7. hi, I'm after a way to charge my sealed batteries while on the move, 12v 12ah and 12v 24 ah , which are used for the kids ride on toys. On top of the batteries they say not to charge more than 4ah or permanent damage can occur. I've looked for plug in cigarette chargers but can't find any, I need to limit the charge to 4amps, is there a simple way to do this, cheers for any help, Brian.

  8. just be careful of the hammer rash, if you not using one regular they can be nasty, good news about your health getting better, good health is the most precious thing, when I was young lad I didn't know what it all meant, but now I know only too well, good luck with the Landrover.

  9. Yes, the heater heats the coolant, before engine is started. the heater just "Tees" into the existing pipework between the engine and existing heater matrix (internal heater),do be honest I don't have mine wired for the demister fan(existing vehicle fan), so it won't drain the battery. I'm sure in summer mode , the heater heats up to few degrees less

  10. you will have to go round with a tape measure, you can have 60% of wheel base past back wheel, so that will be about 55" past the centre of the back wheel. , best bet is to get out and measure and see what would look best, if you get an ali flat bed , some are just bolted together, so are easy to adjust, good luck, I like the look of a flatbed on a Defender, very purposeful .

  11. I have a ready welder and they are brilliant, bought on ebay for 150 quid, I use two car batteries and have two on charge and can weld all day, I haven't welded aluminium yet but according Ready Welder the welds are good, and there selling point, due to the dc and the amps available. Go to Ready Welder website and download their manual, it tells you how to connect your cables to arc, mig, and to batteries , interesting reading. But to be honest I'm sure you make one, once opened up there are quite simple machines.
