  1. Aww, you're missing out on all the fun.

    Last one along those lines I remember was a family of Jehovah's Witnesses turning up on the farm. All dressed in Sunday best, I happened to get back from a dog walk as they arrived. Didn't look very comfortable when I met them with a shotgun over the shoulder and the dog with half a squirrel (other half was a red mist) in her mouth.

    Cue Dad coming out of the workshop putting his jumper out after setting fire to it with the grinder. Mum arriving through from the second yard in an overall covered in blood where she'd been helping a eww deliver.

    To their credit they stuck with it, up until the point Mum pointed out she was Portuguese and therefore "Roman Catholic".

  2. I recently spoke to Flux for the FF and the girl on the end of the phone explained that this year their underwriters have put up the premium associated with having multiple drivers.

    Luckily the FF is standard so can use comparison sites. Annoyingly it was pretty damn cheap with just me. But then I can't get picked up easily when I go out for a drinky.

  3. Last night I chopped the driver's side seat rails down to size, hooked up the battery and collapsed the seat as much as I could. Then it was a case of maneuvering it into the 110 (tricky on the passenger side and damn right awkward on the drivers side).

    So on a plus side I can (just) fit into it and reach the pedals and turn the wheel. However the L322 seat base is flat and the Defender is not. Consequently the front of the seat lifts up my knees which I suspect would make long journeys uncomfortable.

    When I next get some time I shall see if I can modify the brackets so I can get it lower without having to modify the seat base. I suspect it would be beneficial to have a slightly smaller after market wheel as well but more tinkering first.

  4. Personally in the UK I wouldn't risk it. But if I had to given the choice between my 110 and the RR I would take the RR anytime for towing. I doubt it would have much trouble with 4.2 tonnes, I've never really noticed the weight when pulling trailers.

    You might be able to pick up a higher mileage one for £11k. Mine's a 3.6TDV8 which has huge brembos as standard. Though the 4.4 would be nicer you wont get one for 11k. Also they can be a money pit... Would probably be into the 20s for a load like that.

    But I wouldn't on public roads...

  5. Haven't actually looked at these ones. When I measured mine which is a 2007MY they were 8" compared to 4" for the standard Defender ones.

    But none of these measurements were taken with the baseball the way down.

    Currently there's no way I could fit but there's a decent amount of drop still to go.

    (These seats are from a Td6 so an earlier year and originally from a 7 series, people say they're more comfortable). This is going to be rather ironic if they're comfier than the ones in the actual RR!!

    Shall I depress you with what I paid for all 5 including switch units?

  6. I haven't got that far, just cut some excess of the runners so they now fit in place.

    Need to try and sort out the electrics next so I can adjust them. Want to try and line up the drivers side so it's central and to make sure I can actually fit in...

    But ask and ye shall receive.

  7. Just a sneak peek into my new project for the 110.

    A chap over on fullfatrr.com had a full set of heated leather seats out of a Td6 that he wanted rid of for next to nothing. So after a bit of measuring against mine I came to the conclusion that they would probably fit. Just been up and collected them and since it's nice and sunny outside removed the cubby box and passenger seat to offer them up.

    Annoyingly if the seat frame was 1/2" wider and 1" longer they would simplify into place.

    I was most concerned over their width but actually they're not too bad. The photo shows them in their highest setting which is required to remove them, drivers side will be impossible to drive like that but once I've reverse engineered / wired them in then I should be able to see what the clearance will be like.

    Added bonus is that they have the TVs built in the back which offsets the wear and tear. However if I do get them in then I can always retrim if I want.

    I've already lost the middle seat in place of a cubby but with both seats in I'll need to build a narrower cubby box. The seats do have arm rests though so no more trying to open the cubby when the passenger has fallen asleep on it.

    Rear seats should be a bit more entertaining though...

  8. What kind of camping are you doing? Staying in one place and moving around? If that's the case then a roof tent will be a pain.

    When I was supervising Duke of Edinburgh awards we (the leaders) had a large (6 large double bedrooms, communal area, porch and integrated ground sheet) Khyam tent. They don't do it anymore but it wasn't cheap but probably comparable to two roof tents. You could just about erect it in 15 minutes with 4 people, it was designed so that you simply walked apart and everything snapped into place. The inner bedroom pods went up independently. Our record was 3m30 I think but there were 10 of us who knew what we were doing.

    Not saying you need one as big as that, we parked a Disco 2 inside the communal area, but you can leave it behind and occupies a similar volume to a big roof tent. It also has the advantage (Khyam ones anyway) of being fast to erect. Not as robust without guidelines as some tents but then serves a different purpose.

    Rob who normally carried it also built a storage unit into the back of his Disco which once the tent was up you pulled out two drawers, carried them inside and voila you had a gas hob and washing up facilities. We normally used one pod as a kitchen area, two as bedrooms and the central area for eating / sitting in chairs.

  9. Do you have a diagnostics tool such as the IID Tool? They're invaluable on a vehicle such as this.

    I would recommend the IID Tool BT (Bluetooth) version if it's applicable to your vehicle. There is little it can't do and for its capabilities it is very reasonably priced. Especially when you consider a dealer will normally charge £80 a pop to plug it in.

    If there are electrical faults it will be invaluable in diagnosing them.

  10. Does the car slowly sink when it's parked up or the Air Suspension Inactive fault is thrown up? If so then it sounds like there's a leak somewhere - the rubber on the air bags in the suspension struts are common ones.

    Although having said that all the other electrical issues might point towards something dodgy going on there - have you got any signs of damp in the car? For example in the boot or behind the glove box?

    sportline - I'm not too far away near Farnham so might be able to help out. Can only do weekends although fairly free on those. I'm pretty sure I've got all the tools required here at home. If you've got a garage to work in that would be ideal - I don't.

    Haven't personally done a head-gasket on a 300 but have completely stripped down and rebuilt a 2.25D so wouldn't be fazed by it. (I've got a 300Tdi 110 myself so familiar with the engines anyway).

  12. What kind of tricks? Not wanting to promote another forum but the best one for >=L322 Range Rovers is fullfatrr.com. Although they spend most of the time changing wheels and polishing.

    Pete Haylands (Haylands on the forum), myself and a few others do use them "properly" off-road. Well Pete's a bit bonkers and has drowned his several times, built a snorkel, built front and rear winch trays etc. etc.

    Mine's a bit different being a 07MY with Terrain Response etc but they are phenomenal off-road and only really let down by lack of tyres. Yours being a Td6 you can drop down to 18" wheels but I'm stuck (unless I go for a set of Compmotive alloys) on 19". But even with those manufacturers won't build tyres as robust or as aggressive as those for a 16" wheel. I've exploded a few when laning :wacko:

    In terms of handbooks you should be able to get them from topix or they'll be linked over on the Wiki on the fullfatrr.com forum.

    The Td6 is notorious for destroying gearboxes though... Do you know what the state of yours is?
