  1. Monday mornings are bad enough, made even worse when you need fuel first thing while you're half asleep, then the cap falls off the pump and several fragments of plastic bounce in all directions. Can you get new fuel caps and put the existing lock into them? I'd really prefer not to need another different key..
  2. At some point people must do this to their vehicles, stand back, and think that looks good. Hard to get your head around it..
  3. I often look around autotrader, ebay etc to see what interesting vehicles are around, often get ideas you may use, other you might not... http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2eb8e506b1
  4. Thanks for the advice and links, the repaired arm looks so much better. I usually go to Bartram near Accrington, they seem very skilled and reasonable rates. Just wondering how urgent these things are, mot guy said urgent, but its done well over 100k miles, sure it can do a few more
  5. Sorry, no solution, I just avoid the situations which make it happen. Still worried it could be something on its way out, as its an unpleasant vibrating, but others seem to be having similar problems....
  6. Thanks for the advice, I'll take a look tonight and try and tighten.
  7. Its the bolt/joint right at the front, almost under the bumper. So hopefully it won't be a big job, the mot mechanic thought it would mean a new arm. See, would you let me touch your steering with my vague underatanding of the parts?! cheers
  8. I had the same problem, and was worried it was a cv joint. It was a vibrating resonance at low revs going up hill.
  9. My defender past its mot, but a strong advisory was to replace the part above, which has too much play in it. Any ideas how much a garage would charge for this? I'm not going to attempt steering jobs myself.
  10. What about the vw style rustolium stuff or however it's spelt? I remember seeing some good results on a previous thread
  11. I'd try one of the t cut type products, must admit I much prefer them without decals

Sounds like an interesting vehicle, I do want something original, I really like the historic military apsect of them.
  13. He must be pretty smart, I was impressed with the vehicle knowledge, but animals as well. Damn. I think there was a lot to learn watching the series, for a newbie like myself.
  14. Did anybody see this on one of the more obscure satalite channels? About 15 episodes were the mechanics Mark and Pete turned an old Range Rover into a 100" high spec Defender offroader. A big project, shocked me when they said it had taken 2,500 hours!!! At the often quoted garage rate of £60 that would have cost £150,000 for labour, plus maybe £20,000 of parts. Scary thought...
  15. Just reading a post by Landy V8, mentions Terrafirma http://www.terrafirma4x4.com/products_php.php?cat=2 A good site for newbies, with light / medium / heavy specifications. The springs come with a 2" lift, maximum you can go for without changing suspension components.
  16. Been doing some reading, struggling to find sprung weights. But read some comments that say dampers are more important than springs to ride comfort, and that the standard Land Rover ones are pretty poor.
  17. Isn't the point of a bobtail that you actually shorten the wheelbase? Because that will just handle like a 110, while looking like a 90, odd. But the engine will make up for it!

Thanks Moore, very helpful post, I will know what to look out for now. I'd rather not spend £5k if possible, but I would like one as described above, with all the bits that can go wrong sorted. I feel I have enough restoration with the Defender to take another project on. and I'll check out the forum thanks! Cheers
  19. http://www.btinternet.com/~cooperchadwick/lr90/calculator.html I found the link thanks FridgeFreezer. Next job is to put the right figures in...

I've been browsing ebay and autotrader to get an idea of prices. Saw the odd one in original condition and some with a new chasis. They do seem to go for reasonable prices, for a classic that will probably only go up in value.
  21. Oooh nicks90, thats a very interesting post. I'd like to here more about the possibilities of this, I'm sure Western or some other will be help to help confirm or not if its possible.Just imagine wafting along in the old bucket

I'm in Lancashire, don't really have a set budget, maybe around 5k?
  23. So I may have the "comfort" springs already fitted... From reading the spec chart I'm left a little more confused, looking at the lb/inch for the springs the standard are 225. But the heavy duty has 210/240. So softer under initial compression I should just accept it's not a range rover
  24. Thats great help cheers. Its not my 90 in the picture, mines in a little better condition than that
