To be fair the Draper Advanced and the Elora range are also good.
But i would recommend Teng to other people.

Makes a change to have a project where you get rid of stuff instead of looking for parts.

Just run the series as standard maybe just add some mud tyres but don't go massive.
If you want better off road performance buy a 90/110.

I too would leave the transmission as is also, you never know when a sudden shower might require 4wd on a wet field with your caravan.
The fuel saving will be minimal also IMO

Make some stainless steel items for you then they will never rot away again.

It sounds like the engine was running on oil!!!
I think an engine compression test is in order first, and a thorough inspection in the morning.
I would say unlikely the turbo most likely the engine.
Maybe not the head possible a valve stuck open?
What is the mileage on the car?

I see you have the spot lights in your front bumper. Did you use any specific loom for these? Or did you add a button to the drivers console and just used a relay?

Is it possible to change the front end on my 2002 TD4 to the newer style headlights and front bumper?

Sounds like a dodgy sensor.
Get it checked out on Diagnostics as the error code should be stored.
